My groundie found this craigslist ad the other day and we looked into it:

"Tree Man Needed To Finish Job (Johns Island)

I have a dead tree that a "WANT TO BE" tree man worked on for about 7 hours and we came to the conclusion that he was unable to finish the job. It was a barter deal for an "exchange in value" of tree equipment (almost new) that I have from an attempt to help a friend start a new tree business which was a costly mistake for me! Over $6,000.00 was spent on the saws, ropes and every type of climbing equipment & safety gear used in the tree business.
Now, what I propose is a barter of "tree equipment" for completing the dropping of a 24" tree, from the top down.
*The tree has been limed of everything to the top.
*Remaining is the main trunk only.
*I will be the ground man using my tractor to do all the heavy work.
*A large pulley and rope is attached near the top.
*Ready to lower each section to the ground with the tractor.
*My tractor/backhoe is equipped with a grab claw for dealing with the drops.
*I will do the clean-up and burning.
This should be an easy job for a guy who knows what he is doing. I am very easy to barter with and expect you to get the best part of the barter. I will text photos to anyone that request them by sending me a text. If you want to do the job text me with info on when you can do the work. After that we will talk and "JUST DO IT".

Groundie and I went out and blocked down the tree in about 4 hours. The ad said no limbs were left...not true, but no biggie. The "large pulley" stated in the ad was laughable. Shouldn't have been used to lower limbs much less logs. 1st thing I did was lower that POS to the ground and get a real one sent up.

So, no LZ (flower bed, house, and driveway), we lowered limbs and they were dragged off by HO's tractor to burn pile, and logs lowered into tractor bucket. No cleanup for us.

Of all the gear he wanted to trade (which there was plenty I wanted - most of which they bought at local Vermeer store) the Jonsered caught my eye. Big saw 88cc, with 36" bar. Brand new. We based the trade on our time and he let me have the saw. Used it to cut the final trunk pieces and it was a monster...cut nice. Anyway, this is my first saw of this size (biggest is MS460) and honestly, if I was shopping for one I would've gone Husky or Stihl. But I wanted to get opinions from anyone that might know the saw.
Thanks - Will

Well if you really are skeptical, I'll take it;). Seriously, you scored a winner. I have a 2095 which is an older series number and it is a workhorse. The parent company owns husky too. Your only issue may be service. Got any more goodies in that trade?

No that was it, which was justified I think. That saw with bar/chain combo goes for around $11-1200 I think. Not bad for 4 hrs. :)

But he also has brand new yellow stable braid (prob 9/16 @ 150'- 4" spliced eye) in a new Sherrill Rope Boss Bag, new spikes with long straight spurs (he said they're titanium) not sure the brand though, rescue 8, half dozen biners, another new Jonsered 55cc, and loads of webbing straps.

He's a nice guy and has a nice recently built house on the river. Unfortunately someone buried the sh!t out of the trees directly in front of his house. Luckily they were nothing too special. Couple of beat up laurel oaks that'll have to come down soon. I told him I'm ready for more good bartering.

That would be about right for the price. Need any help when you go back?

Not sure about the drive time but it would be cool to get together sometime. Who knows, maybe you can teach me a trick or two.

Definitely brother, though you'd probably be doing the teaching. Next time I'm heading near Hotlanta I'll holler at ya. Same to you with Chucktown.

Love the old johnny reds great saws!!
Johnny Red. I like it. That's her name for now on. OK, his name - don't wanna call a girl Johnny.

Only thing I don't like about this saw is I have to take the bar off just to fit it in the toolboxes of the bucket truck.
