I didn't see any problem with it.

Babberney. That joke didn't state that the subjects were from an African American decent. I think you have a sereo type for "blacks" and think they they must talk like this. How dare you. /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I couldn't give a crap if a joke is about my type of race, sex or religion. Southpark makes fun of Catholics all the time and I still think those jokes are kinda funny. And I'm a practicing Catholic and feel good about my faith.
You go see a black comedian and they are cracking on whites all the time. I don't care. If I go to a small comedy place in Baltimore, we might be the only couple in there that's white, and they will rail on me -again, so freakin what.
I have a Latin friend, and she makes fun of me being a gringo and I make spic jokes at her. Big deal.
One of my best friends is Chinese and we do the same, we can make jokes about our races as well.

plenty of us could say the same thing, but this is not your living room, or a comedy club. It's a public forum. Some of us are friends, most of us are at least friendly, but sometimes we are strangers. We don't know who's on the other end of things. If my friend heard me tell a joke like this, he might not see anything wrong with it, but a stranger might well assume I was a racist. I think it is worth it to show a little restraint in a venue like this.

Shoot, I think WHITE GUILT is more of a problem now-a-days. And people like you (the 3 or so that thought Tree DR was wrong) are the ones that keep it growing. OH NO! A joke that might suggest a black person. OH NOOOOOOOOOOOO! /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

You miss my point. The joke without the dialect was just a funny about divorce, child support and revenge. With the dialect (coming from someone who doesn't usually talk that way), it suggests that "those people" whether black or hillbilly or whatever are to be mocked by "us people". There's just no point, in terms of makingthe joke funnier or better.

Yes, it does seem like liberals, tree huggers, racism watchers, anti-gun, pro-choice, anti-firework, anti-hunting often go together and are the same people. Often, not always. (I could have come up with a better list, but that would take more time). yeah, that list pretty well sucked...
Tree DR., I think you made some good points. And no wonder you got hot after being called a racist. I wouldn't let it bother you though. And others that agree with you, ain't saying it on here cause they don't want to be grouped in the racist group either. Everyone is so dang scared.

(sigh) He got hot without ever being called a racist. But I'm glad he fought for his side, and I'm glad we had this discussion. I don't know why people would be scared to join in. I can understand why they'd just avoid the whole thing (I suspect there are more of us on both sides who didn't respond at all). Frankly, I never imagined we'd get so much argument out of it, but I think it's important to discuss these issues. I am grateful that we can talk about these things here rather than having things quickly disintegrate into insults and invective.

Now, cant wee, cant wee, cant wee all gist git along?
I'll take some of the heat now. Hee hee.
I don't care if some on here now thinks that somehow I'm a racist. If people in my community thought that, that would be a different story. But that won't happen cause they see who I really am. yippie /forum/images/graemlins/applaudit.gif

I thought we were getting along. We talked about a hot issue, so it's no surprise people got a little hot, but mostly we all stayed civil and stuck to the issues. I think we'd all be better off if that happened more often in the world. I certainly don't think you are a racist because you disagree with me.
But clearly people are tired of it, as am I. So, Mark, if you feel a need to lock the topic, go ahead. I don't understand why it's necessary, though, and I'll continue to respond if anyone is still interested in discussing the issues I've raised.
