There are two kinds of people. One that absorbs John Prine and the other kind will too, sooner or later.
John Prine came into my life at gymnastics practice in the fall of 1971. My buddy @Paul Hiltunen taped the album and brought it to practice one day. I absorbed that from the first stanza and played and played my copy. At one time I could sing along with John, and sound OK too, his first three albums. Everyone knows his songs too. Some singers have made them 'theirs' and John is absorbed. The songs have become standards.
This article goes into two things, life and death. John died from COVID early in the outbreak. My live and friends have been blessed because John Prine os the only person I know who died from COVID. Yeah, I'm
sad
Give a read and absorb the chosen songs. Your world will be better.

PS
Years after being absorbed I was muddling around his homepage, The Prine Shrine, and saw a pic of John on the side horse. That was the piece that Paul and I worked in high school. The pic was very small so I sent an email and explained the above story then asked if they could send me a file of the pic that could be clearly printed. It arrived a couple of weeks later.

Life, Death, and John Prine
The 71-year-old’s songs soundtrack moments of deep pain and joy for many, including writer Jayson Greene.
