I have a guy I served in Iraq with who's looking to get some trees taken down in Hampden,Massachusetts . He sent me pictures of the front if his hoyse, and I can't do them, they're over the primary power lines, one has a heavy lean to it, but it's not a large tree the others are pretty decent sized. it hoping to get him a Veterans discount, and I'd like to work the job with whoever does it, I can drag brush and run ropes, etc.... if not, just guve him a good pruce, he does a ton for Veterans. I don't touch the stuff near the street power lines unless I can lift them. I can give the address to whoever is seriously intetested. Thinking someone our of Connecticut maybe ?

Where I live the street lights and traffic signals are all 110 volts, maybe something to look into.

..... Or a qualified line clearance arborist....
Having a QLCA remove the tree is ONE way that the utility can mitigate. My point was that your buddy should contact the utility and see to what extent they can help out. Some utilities will remove the tree and leave the brush, others will simply prune the tree to provide adequate clearance for removal. Depending on where his house is in the circuit, sometimes they can deenergize and ground the lines (which may or may not be a charge). It's worth calling about imo.

I haven't been over to see the trees I'm person to know the extent of what may be needed I have had utility company cut back for me before though.

I hear that, and my bad assuming you weren't referring to that.
Not sure about your area, but in my time doing removal circuits and talking with others whk have for a while, they never come out and de-energize, cover, ground, isolate, cut, or send anyone to do anything listed ever

Lol no I've only had them drop service lines to house, and cut back stuff over primary lines that the homeowner said he was going to try and do himself. they wereally wired so they cut it ba k enough to make it safe lol

You're right, very rarely have I seen a primary wire deenergized for tree removal, the times I have were so that the QLCA contracted to the utility could do the work safer. Utilities won't/ shouldn't cover the wires anymore, they aren't allowed to (I think it's a 1910.269 thing, though I'm not certain). More frequently I've seen the utility notify the home owner that the circuit is due to be trimmed soon and will have the line clearance crew remove the tree during routine maintenance if the homeowner is willing to sign a liability waiver. Most of the time its like @Raven27 said, they will drop service wires, and trim the tree back to ten feet. Also, I've seen the utility send out their contractor to top the tree out to a height that it wouldn't hit the lines (safing it out). Of course, most of it all boils down to the utility getting multiple calls a day from homeowners wanting free tree work done. In my experience, I've found that if it is a ligitimate safety risk that only a QLCA can do, many utilities tend to help out, but only if you express SAFETY and not FREE! They are required to an extent of mitigation (1910.269 again, as well as ANSI Z133 4.1.4)

What utility is he on? Each utility has their own prescription and parameters for removals.

When were the trees last pruned? Recent Cycle? Are there defects present?
Is it Primary 3 phase, single phase or secondary?
