I just got a call from the site. The start is delayed until noon at least. It looks like the system will be past by around 11 or so.

Yes blue sky white clouds here for hours but someone saw a storm on radar. so after sitting inside all morning the day was blown off.

someone is miscalculating and overblowing imo risk, a common problem in the tree biz...

I think its a smart call. Last year they had a delayed start and the last groups were finishing in waning sunlight.
Starting at 12 and trying to get all the competitors through would be tough enough, if there is even a chance of rain some probably wouldn't be able to be fit in or would be forced to climb in compromised weather. Thats not fair or smart.

With just 23 competitors in East PA we start at 8 and are done at 330. What is there 40-50 competitors? How would they possibly all finish before 8? How does postponing it NOT make sense?

Will they start early and do the master's climb all in one day?

We are. 7:00 start and a little modified prelims course with shortened time limits. Then a full Master's. I guess we will miss the opening ceremony this year?

Everything should be ready to rock for the morning with the 7 a.m. start time. Prelims are shortened and things are going to be interesting and gonna cram it all in one day. As a volunteer we have to be out there at 5 a.m. which is WAY EARLY! Good crew and it will all get fit in.

Good Luck Mark. Sounds like its gonna be tough on the judges and techs. You guys really make it all possible for the competitors. Way to go! Good luck everyone!
