Itcc question for Tom

Todd,

I can only offer this as my opinion.

I waited for the PMI link to scroll around at the top and looked in the PMI website. This is what I found: http://www.pmirope.com/access/software/products/lsr/ir125wr001p.htm

From what I read, the 11 mm rope has a breaking strength of 6,000 lbf. The way that I interpret the rules, this is an adequate rope for access. I doubt that you're using it as a climbing line.

All of that said, you should write to Jim Skiera or Bruce Smith to get a final ruling. Bruce lurks here, HI RRUCE :), so he might chime in.

Somewhere in the rules it refers to ropes needing to be made for the arbo industry or approved by the manufacturer for our industry. I think that is a rule that could use a review. Rather than set an industry specific standard, set a performance or specification standard. Since there aren't any accessory cords, that I know of, designed for arbos, this might, by a strict interpretation of the rules, make all cords suspicious. The innovations that have come from allowing a variety of cords has changed climbing. Think of what it might mean if this same idea is allowed for climbing lines.

Thanks Tom, and yes access only line I will give those numbers a call. I still have the paper work with all the stats I will bring it with.
