Irritating the Competition

Just had the most interesting of phone messages.

Some anonymous caller (blocked cid) started b*tching about my ad in the local paper, specifically the photo of my climber.

"...he has no rope snap", "...no taught-line hitch", "...is probably only 6 feet up in the tree", "give me a freaking break...", "may be able to fool the public but not us experienced climbers..."

And for the record, no he didn't have a snap-he uses carabiners, no he didn't have a taught-line-he uses a VT, and yes he was 6 feet up, plus another 50!

The way the image appears in the ad it fades to allow for text so that stuff is missed.

Even so, It's nice to see that our ad gets people's attention(I have suspicions of who the caller was) ... especially those who don't use ppe!

You know, I don't think we are beating the competition in any major way, but since I got my ISA cert we've seen the bar get raised in many ways. And that is definitely ticking off the established old-schoolers.

Over the years we've had some slander us with customers, we've seen other claim certifications, including BCMA without ever having earned them.

There is one outfit, clearly a quality company who, except for their attitude about other tree companies, would otherwise be a top rate outfit. They have seen fit to dive into the depths of the politics of personal destruction against the rest of us, apparently me especially.

We do our best to hold to a higher standard though, and keep on keeping on!
 
How's the climber gonna prune it without spikes/ chainsaw?


I had a customer call me to tell me that another bidder claimed that I didn't have the equipment to do the job. He was seemingly really desperate to get the job. An old logger turned residential tree worker, I hear. She was just confirming I did have all I need, as promised, and to let me know someone was trash-talking me. Never have met the guy. I guess I don't have the right equipment because I'll be climbing the trees, rather than bucketing my way up, way up to about a whopping 50-60'.

Guess you're making them nervous.

I really enjoyed that story....looks like a great ad to me...doesnt it feel good to be the good guy that does things right? Thats a good place to be under the competitors skin.
 
If he was working he wouldn't be so concerned with your ad!
His loss.
I think it's a safe looking picture of a climber in a tree.
Good ad.
this is what the public needs to see as who should be in their trees.

The ad looks great. He's paranoid.

I too have some paranoid competitors. And they are worried for no real reason at all. There is plenty of tree work to be done...

It's a free market out there! --Ain't it?!

Plenty of work indeed, provided you are willing to hustle and go after it.

I think the guy who called is upset that we keep pushing the bar higher. Makes them have to stay on their toes a whole lot more.
