Inventors, Innovators - improvements for Arborist

A client I worked for recently told me that he invented a part for some kind of machine. He then showed it to the company that made the machine. They said it will never work so he threw out all his drawings and low and behold the new model machines that came out had his part on them as a new feature. He said if you can't afford a patent, then at least get a copyright to prove that you did invent it and protect yourself from some one who would steal your invention and patent it making it impossible for you to sell your invention.

I don't think a copyright will protect your utility patent.
Just publish it and make it pubic domain if the patient is out of reach. A short number of years ago patent law changed, very much in favor of corporations.

Notice how persistent Tim was? I think that was part of his success. Reminds me of Gordon/Surveyor.
Often times the innovator/inventor has a very clear understanding of the benefits or advantages. What seems consistent though is how slow the general population can be sometimes (not always) to catch on. That time lag can be a deterrent.
