So many times will I refuse to quote a job after a short phone call by the obvious disregard to our local critical area laws. Typically it doesn't even go that far.. The typical call goes something like, "We have a bunch of trees our HOA has approved removal of, we want them cut down in half as they are just so unruly. You can leave all the material on the slope if you like" or some such. My replies to fish it out a little "Oh, so you want them cut in half for view? They must be on a bluff?" and or "oh, are these trees growing on your property?"
9 times out of 10 I'm right, and then ask if they have their critical areas permits in order with the county. They just play dumb and I know they go down the list to the next phone number, as I frequently see the aftermath.
There is always someone that will do it without a permit, and many times I feel like I'm the only one that won't. I know they would throw the Arborist under the bus if they ever got caught. One I was the opposing expert on and the crew who did the job settled for over $80K (well their insurance did when the person who hired them played dumb).
This one I think take the cake..IMG_4042.jpegIMG_4043.jpeg
