In Georgia on a trip wondering what this is

I had to look up pawpaw. The leaves seem very much like pawpaw whereas the sourwood leaves have that terminal venation that runs parallel to the edge of the margin. The bark looks like sourwood or persimmon to me, and does not look like the pawpaw bark I searched online. I'm assuming it is sourwood because of the bark, so what's up with the venation pattern?

Maybe they are two different trees?

The red fall color starting to show is another tip towards that.

No way that is pawpaw bark...but I agree with just the 3rd picture it looks a bit like it. Leaves also turn yellow.
