Am I thinking about this wrong?
Yes completely. The entire scenario.. I'm sorry man, the things your constantly asking are mind numbing & should be common knowledge to anyone before even thinking about climbing, nevermind using a heavy ground saw in a tree or trying to Bid Jobs like you are... But it's beyond that, the need to ask why the spine is wide on the transporter is one of those mind numbing questions.. for real, in all sincerity, do you really not know why it's wide? You really don't know the limits of a caritool? Besides the fact both answers can be figured out just by looking at them, all these manufacturer design choices & material specs are printed right there in their descriptions & ratings.
Dude I'm sorry someone has to say it for your own good...
Two months ago you came here with 0 knowledge, experience, ability or skill on this overall treework topic.. Although theres been some positive encouragment, you've also been kindly warned that your over your head time & time again by those with enough courage to say so.. Yet i just read (& this is mainly why I'm writting this) a thread where your trying to bid jobs as if you have the ability, experience & tools to complete them, nevermind not get fucked up or killed in the process.. I have to ask, again, with all sincerity, Do you really think your just going to get up there & it will all be clear as to what to do, when just a month ago you were telling us how physically hard it is to flip a flipline & asking why your spurs aren't working? I beleive your trying to run with scissors before you've even learned how to even crawl my friend.. The very basic 101 stuff your asking paints this obvious picture.. I don't think your grasping just how quick this shit hits the fan, how easy it can hit the fan & how helpless you'll be when it does until it's too late & your a gonner.. What was this trade ranked? #2nd most dangerous in the world? Maybe it's changed since then..idk.. the point i need to make runs deeper than some ranking.
The fact is..(& this may sound over the top) in terms of learning, this trade is no different than say... a.. Seal Team .. Special Forces.. SWAT.. Firefighter, Elite Security Contactors, even a joe schmo Beat Cop... You can't just decide one day to be one after two months of talking on the internet, a few ride alongs, some positive comments & then with a final written quiz, expect go off on your own & take down Osama bin laden. There's a very long process of learning basic skills that needs to be completed & memorized on just the ground level.. Idc what anyone says, 20yrs of cutting firewood only scratches the surface of the ground game needed to complete this work, nevermind understanding rigging & then possibly the climbing, but only when those boxes are checked.. Strapping on spurs with limited climbing ability, limited saw experience, no real tree rigging experience or how & why each limb will react when cut, will end up very very bad.. & possibly bad for those around you as well. Not to mention property damage to the homeowner who trusted your skillset.
I worked this trade daily for 4-5 years before i personally felt i knew enough to even attempt being an Arborist.. & I'm that guy who has lived his whole life blurring the lines between what will kill & what won't, fuck ppe, fuck helmets etc.. just lived stupid as hell & was comfortable with any extreme scenario. I also thought I knew everything about treework because i owned a landscaping company & bid on shit as if i knew what was up.. That was until i actually did it for a full time living & realized i didn't know shit & had just been lucky.. Since then, I've seen & heard of too many accidents within this trade that come & go within a split second & are inseared into my brain like a bad dream. This job is no joke my friend, these were all guys being careful with years of experience.. your not ready for prime time bud, I'm telling you. Do not take these jobs on yet.. that is how the accident starts & becomes the snowball effect.
Is what i just explained dramatic, harsh, negative, maybe. But it's it untrue, No, its very real. Maybe i should have PM'd.. idk.. i just wish more would speak up to the OP for his own sake.. cuz yall know exactly what I'm talking about if you've been following along....
To answer your question, the larger caritool is rated plenty strong to hold a 15lb saw.. Plenty of ppl holding saws with them.
