I strongly dislike politicians

We need both parties to eliminate the party fundraising quotas to serve on and chair committees. When you have to raise $1,200,000/yr for your party to chair an "A" level committee, your allegiance shifts towards the big donors needed to raise those amounts. And all the time spent fund raising takes away from the time available to do real work (plus they're still fundraising for reelection campaigns.)

That’s my plan, I figure I’ll let it grow some interest, since by the time I have to pay it back that $1400 will cost $14,000.

The type of person who is drawn to be a politician, is the same type of person who ends up putting their own interests above that of society. Sociopathy, narcissism, etc. Nowadays, it seems like anyone who is lacking these qualities, has no interest in being associated with politics, or does not have the immoral character necessary to execute a winning campaign. Solve that and the rest might fall into place. We, as a society, are horrible judges of character; or, we just see politicians as not requiring any character.

Maybe we are viewing politics as a lost cause and hence don’t care anymore and settle for ear-tickling...

Our society has come to place greater personal value and admiration on fame, wealth, and influence than virtue, wisdom, and honor. Until this changes, we will continue to elect representatives who are unfit for the job.
