Good predator, can you post a pic of the rope? That will help us see if it's used too much to bother splicing.

From the sounds of it, it is still very spliceable.

Hey ya'll,
geez i was looking for some guidance and boy did i get some! thank you all so much for you thoughts, sorry i been a little busy lately...

im gonna have pics up very soon just so everyone is on the same page. i think the rope is still in excellent condition so hopefully spliceable, i will let you be the judge.

i'm confident in tying the double-fisherman's however, as blinky pointed out i do use a hitch climber, and i certainly do like to keep my XT as clear as possible. also, I have climbed in a double-lanyard style so i do occasionally throw my climbing line in a crotch and appreciate it being more easily retrievable. so i really would like to get a splice...

treestyler, i wish i could just rotate it into a rigging rope! but it's in way too good shape, plus it's my first rope so now it's got sentimental value!
but, what is a pullingline or speedline? do you mean like a zipline? (which we have occasionally used) just curious...

blinky, thanks for your handsaw tips. i do use a sugoi and when i started, heck even now, i'm amazed at the action of it. I had plenty of guidance and warnings but it still surprised me sometimes. by the time i nicked the rope i really should have known better (and it Was on a cut's follow through, i really thought i could pull it back quick enough, i was wrong)...

goodaking... rock n' roll, thanks for all your help...

p.s. i'm outta CT and i'm going to get my rope and take the pics right now...back in a flash...

I'm guessing you severed 3-5 cover strands and partially severed a few more. If it was my rope, I'd cut it.

The rope could probably still lift a car but it will screw with your confidence while climbing. Much better to put another splice on it so you don't even have to think about it.

Plus, the cut's close to the end and the rope looks like you could still splice it. I see very little abrasion or fading, you must take good care of it.

I'd cut it and have retired ropes with about half that. Shoot I'd even try at splicing that it looks so new. Send it off and just deal with a shorter rope.

*thanks, i'm just gonna wait to hear from shawn or john to get the last word that they will take it.

*i have been climbing on it, but my confidence in it is certainly something that stays on my mind.

*when i said i have climbed double-lanyard i meant i use it as a second lanyard not that i really climbed "double-lanyard style" (where one rope is used and both ends are alternately used as lanyards. just to clarify!

...giving Tulip the Rabbit some carrots right now so she doesn't eat my rope
