I FINALLY WIN AT AN AUCTION!

Ummm dude....This is the sanford and son restoration thread.
Take your fancy 2 million dollar rig to the other side of the tracks....

I am kidding ofcoarse. That rig, along with Mike Poor's are my two favorite rigs I have ever seen. Mabey some day...
A man can dream cant he? The worst that can happen is he wakes up.

I like the gussets alot. If I could put my dump box on Jenny Craig..then Id consider it. I have not ruled out buying a torch and a nice arc welder, rigging the a$$ of my truck to my pine tree, and cutting out 5 foot off the back.

We shall see. I kinda like it the way it is. I did get stuck in an alley already but thats a another story for a another day.

Jesse, sorry to hear that work is slow, truck is looking good. I hope us killing palms under or near the high voltage does not cut into business, been working down here in Phoenix for a couple of weeks.

Yeah I will be there to watch, I have to go back to Flagstaff later this week but will be down on Saturday to support the climbers, you guys always put on a good show. Been having fun with tree ID down here, been a while since I played with eucs and acicias.

Hey Jesse,

Looks like you got that jack of all trades thing going on, its fun to see the progess.Just a word of advice when fastening aluminum to steel, don't do it unless you put something between them. there's some kind of chemical reaction that takes place and the aluminum over time starts to brake down,we call it white rust. You guys outside of the midwest may be ok ,as I think salt could also have something to do with this.

Nicely done!

Years ago when the fed DOT changed their inspection policies I had to make lots of small changes on my clam truck. One of them was to extend the read bumper out to the sides to 'prevent' vehicles from slipping under the deck in case of a rear ender. All I did was weld on some four inch diameter tubing extensions. The 'bumper' needed to extend to some distance from the sides of the rear wheels. On your bumper the channel comes out a few inches. Even if the truck is under 26k# it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a wider bumper.

Are you using a gas ax or do you have a plasma cutter?

Not only does the bumper need to be a little wider but I noticed some cracks yesterday! I had the worst "almost killed somebody feeling". I couldnt shake it all day. Today I am borrowing a bigger welder so I can button up the hitch welds better. It will be nuclear bomb proof before the day is up. I did most of the cutting with an angle grinder. The learning curve on my new torch was slowing me down and I alos made the mistake of getting the small bottles of gas when I bought it. Needless to say it went fast.
What praytell is a gas ax Tom?

Kman, the box is a perfect 18 feet.

I am working on fixing the hitch today. I chose to use the same welder as before but I read the instructions this time.
I now know not to abuse the duty cycle...I also discoverd that I get ALOT more juice whn I dont run off of an extension cord. I am doing 1 inch at a time, cleaning the mess that builds up ahead of my weld, and WAITING for the duty cycle. Pretty beads if I do say so myself. No need to grind away the shame this time :)

I wish I could afford to convert over to gas but funds are low so this will do. Toms description of clean welds with that sweet popping sound does make me drool a little.

If all else fails, read the instructions

How has it worked out with the box shortened up? Have you weighed it full of chips? I was running Co2 on my Miller 185 but switched to the Argon/Co2 mix and it works MUCH better!!
