I bought my equipment from.......

I am starting this thread based off of a different thread that I started on buying used equipment. When we were looking into buying equipment, we researched so many different companies and pretty much only found people complaining about getting screwed. I want to start a positive thread about where you purchased tree care equipment like chip trucks, bucket trucks, chippers, stump grinders..... you get the picture. Maybe this thread will help others who are looking to buy from a dealer.

We got our truck and chipper from Mainka Enterprises by Milwaukee WI. Our experience was not all peaches and cream, but by enlarge we have been happy with our dealings with them. The quality of our truck and chipper were exactly what we had expected. The few minor issues that we had with the equipment was taken care of by there service department. We had a problem with a leaky PTO and they sent a mechanic to work on our truck 2 separate times, and we are about 1.5 hours from their shop. We also had an issue with the auto feed on our chipper not working properly. Again, they sent a mechanic up to work on it. We have had other small issues come up with our equipment, but they were pretty cheap fixes and most of them we could fix ourselves. We expected to have some problems because we were buying 15 year old equipment and we understood that we were not getting new stuff.

When doing our research, we talked with several people who were not happy with Mainka Enterprises but we also talked with several people who were very happy with them. I think you will always find people who are not happy with a company, but you never know what the customers expectations were and what was promised to them. I was overall happy with Mainka Enterprises and I would go back to them again in the future.

Please feel free to share any good reviews of companies you purchased equipment from. I am especially interested to hear about companies that advertise in Tree Trader since this a common place for tree companies to look for used equipment.

I bought a bc1000 from Vermeer/ I know what your thinkin Rayco is better/ but service was my tie breaker. Years back farmers didn't care about make as much as service & parts availibilty. I like to build that old school relationship with someone/ whether I'm buyin new or used. Gotta dicker a little.

This is a good idea for a thread. I bought a vermeer bc1000 from Vermeer too. Good service. Chipper has 200 hours on it and still chippin...

Why is Rayco better? and what does "Gotta dicker a little" mean?

I wish I never started this thread because it jinxed us. Since originally posting this thread we cracked the engine block on our chipper and we now have a laundry list of items to fix on our truck. The engine on the chipper is being fixed as we speak. The estimate to fix this is upwards of $2000. The truck was brought in for its yearly DOT and was working fine, or so we thought. They found diesel in the coolant, master cylinder was leaking, trans oil was burnt, and several other minor items. They are still working up a quote to fix these problems but from what they ball parked us, we are looking to spend at least $5000.

I understand that things happen, but the mechanic is telling us that it is very very unlikely that all of this stuff would have gone wrong with in 10 months of being "reconditioned". We have contacted Mainka to see what he as to say about the situation but we have not heard back from him yet. I am not really sure what to make of all this yet..... my head is still spinning from all of the money that I am going to have to spend going into the winter months.

I never said Rayco was better/ some folks were chattin bout Rayco/ Vermeer the other day & they seemed to be pretty heavy Rayco fans, didn't wanna start any tire pissin'. Dicker ? To me it means back & forth you & the salesperson, Tryin to get the best bang for our buck. Fifteen Minutes of shootin' the breeze with someone will give ya a feel of someones core. Eqipment allways has a way of blowin' er' cookies, at the worst possible moment, thats when you want that johnnie on the spot service.

Dude, That sucks! I feel your pain. Welcome to my world. I just hope for the best now. had another breakdown and lost a week and a half of good working weather and undure of how many lost jobs that will lead to. Things are hard enough to deal with much less the hassle of breakdowns and downtime. I wish you luck.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. This is the first big hurdle that we had to get over since starting our business. I am sure there will be more and bigger ones in the future.

I know where you're coming from. Every time I say I'm happy with my stuff something ALWAYS breaks. I was telling my old boss the idea about something breaking and said "I'm getting to the point of hanging it up" He simply said "Hang in there"

Royal Truck, never again. I have never had so many problems with a piece of equipment. Cost of truck + cost of repairs = new truck. Buzzers from the north stay away from trucks from the south.

two experiences with two different companies, both buckets. in 2007 went to pick up a truck for a guy from g and a equipment, total dud repairs were almost as much as the truck. second guy was trading in a truck from g and a, purchased from maranunk(sp) a fantastic rig. 2003 int with an altec boom forestry unit. from start to finish it was great. the owner was aces. place was in pennsylvania.

lAKES REGION I 2nd that, ROYAL SUCKS.
bought a truck from them with a bad transmition and they would'nt replace it. STAY cLEAR FROM THOSE GUYS
