Husqvarna T540ixp

Selling a Husky to pick up a Stihl is always the right move.

If I was to nitpick anything it would be purchasing the Husky in the first place. Obviously, redeemed by sending it down the road.

:)
Brand loyalty is total bullshit. I mostly run Stihl, but that is mostly because that’s what we got on the island. A boat ride is a min of $25 round trip a on paper it’s 25 min round trip on water. In reality it’s a half day plus travel.
Now let’s talk battery saws.. husky nailed it, 5:1, it’s the better tool. So much for lookin cool eh?

As long as this thread has been massively derailed, I do wish I'd gotten a 395XP instead of the 661CM. Only Stihl within a days trip for me (also island life) and that matters to me, as much as I wish it didn't.

The battery Husky's are wonderful though, just ordered the telescope pole saw to go with my rear handle and climber. I didn't even consider Stihls offerings for battery saws.

I didn't assume people would actually get that revved up, that's why I specifically put the smiley face in there to protect egos and emotions.

I've never lost a second of my life caring about what saw someone else chooses to run.

No harm no foul. You didn't kick the dog, just nudged him a bit.

This thread seemed to be all about brand loyalty. Selling the best battery saw currently available because a preferred brand is gonna release its new battery saw, which will surely be better.. All without ever actually using this new saw?

Before my injury I spent almost a year working with a fella that ran nothing but all the latest and greatest Stihls. I was able to run the shit out of all the latest Stihls and this experience taught me that whether it was a 261, 362, 400, 661, or 880 the comparable Husky always had more grunt/bottom end to pull a longer bar/chain with much more authority, and do it for less money. When you get to the 661 and the 880 this becomes even more obvious, with the 880 magnum showing itself to be a historic dawg (stihl should be ashamed of themselves for releasing this saw into the wild).

I live in the real world where running a 25” bar on a 90cc saw is a fucking joke, so when Stihl can produce a stock 90cc saw that will pull a 42” bar with genuine authority I will be the first inline to purchase one.. Until then I guess I’m stuck with my trusty old 395’s.

Never ran a Husky only because no local dealers
Once upon a time there was a dealer that no one recommended
Kind of sucks but not really when I don’t know the difference but after reading the different opinions makes me wonder
So Stihl has wonderful service at more than one shop locally
Stihl for the win for me

I got my first chance to use the T540i today and it was as good as I had hoped. Despite feeling heavy compared to my 2511, it is very well balanced with a 14" bar. I removed some medium-sized limbs(up to 12") off a tall Pin Oak today and it just chewed right on through. The stock chain seems to be well-suited to this saw in my opinion. Only used half the life of one battery. Very pleased!

It’s even better with a 1/4” pitch.. but does just fine stock, unlike the 2511.
Granted I’ve been reaching for my 2511 over the husky unless I know I’m cutting sizeable wood.
The battery shines with the lack of fumes, and lack of pull start. Beyond that I’d venture to say it’s better than a 192 and maybe close to on par with a 201 and a smidge lighter.
The battery will tank in sizable wood much more than a gas counterpart. But for pruning and small removals I’d much rather use the husky.. for straight pruning and maybe a few 6-8” cuts the weight of the 2511 with a 1/4” is hard to beat.
I haven’t done anything to the muffler on the 2511 but did on my 150t, I reach for the 2511 first.

Evo, are you saying a 1/4" pitch will perform better than stock chain on the T540i XP?

And just to be sure.....are you talking about the stock chain that comes new with the saw?

@evo

I bought my saw lightly used, I’m certain but not 100% the chain was stock, as I don’t think you can get a non stock chain for the saw.
It ripped, and was ridiculously sharp.
The 1/4” was a bit better. I wouldn’t say the gains were worth it, but personally I have a harder time filing 1/4” chain. It’s not clear cut persay

The stock chain when new rips in an oddly agressive way, not that that is a bad thing.

What does it take to switch to 1/4? And can Stihl chain be mated to that (used for that.)

The only way to dont is with the panther setup from monkey beaver (that I’m aware of). They sell the sprocket, bar and 2 chains for about 150. I haven’t compared the Stihl bar and the panther to see if the oiler holes and mounting match up. But as for running Stihl 1/4” on a panther bar I don’t see why not?!
The sprocket is a pain in the ass to remove, and took some heat todo so.
