Hello Tree Friends,

Haven't posted here in years but now i do need a hand if i can get one..



Last June on one of the last jobs of the season my 6 months old 540 got overheated on a 45 degrees Celsius day..

After desertion of the machine, i found the wind deflector to not be in place and a hole burnt into the black plastic motherboard underneath the motor.

I guess i should have cheated and told my reseller it just fried out of the blue..

I did not however and ordered a new motherboard. Payed the 280 euros and waited 6 months for it to arrive..

I reinstalled the new motherboard and no disco..

The machine does wake up. All it does is flash the 4 batterie bar LEDs. Also, i can connect to the machine via the app. But did not find any things useful by doing so. A software update crashes at 99 %.

I can not find other obvious defects in the machine, the cables are good, the connections are solid and the motor seems to be in good order..20221210_154249.jpg

Does anybody have some experience with this machine and the flashing lights ?
 
I have zero experience with battery saws, but just from a general troubleshooting approach:

If the hole in the motherboard wasn't obviously caused by an overheated component, I'd be looking for the heat source (failure) that burned the hole. Could the heat have come from the motor or is the motherboard shielded from the motor? Is the "wind deflector" that wasn't in place the shield?

The motor seeming to be in good order doesn't tell me much. Is that from a visual inspection or testing? I'd be tempted to run the motor directly from a battery to verify the motor is good. I wouldn't expect any harm from a momentary "bump" to the motor when bypassing all the fancy circuitry. Use jumpers adequate for the amperage.

The crashing software updates aren't a good sign, but I have no advice on that.

The battery voltage is certainly good for a 36V battery, but I might still try another battery if one is available.

Checking continuity/resistance along the path between the battery/trigger/motherboard/motor could be diagnostic.

I'd also carefully inspect the connectors to the motherboard with a magnifier for signs of overheating or defect. Unplugging/replacing the connectors a few times may ensure a good connection.

I wrote in another thread of the problems I'm still having with my electric Husky top handle after being jostled on a tree stem this summer. I've taken the battery cover off, tried fiddling with the battery clips but still the only thing that works is round(s) and round(s) of stretched electrical tape to get battery contact and a green light. So no user serviceable parts inside I guess. Have a look at the parts diagram for the T540 saw - the connectors to the battery and the control module and stuff to the guts of the thing seem to be one large part - who knows if you can even get this if you wanted to replace it. So no "modularity" - it looks like a toss it job frankly, if it goes on the fritz. I for one, guess I'lll be going back to gas saws, as the parts are more replaceable. Dealers in the sticks are more used to diagnosis and fixing too. Like battery snowblowers up here and battery lawnmowers, they just aren't ready for day in day out pounding maybe. Or maybe I've just been unlucky. But I'd fix it if I could . . .

I was going to put up a new post, but found this. My relatively new T540i started smoking and now it isn’t working! Any thoughts? I’ll likey just take it too a dealer and hopefully it’s still under warranty?

My motherboard fried last month without warning. Husky warrantied the part even though it was well outside the one year period. I just had to pay the shop labour to have it replaced. It seems to be a known (or at least common) issue so maybe they're replacing them as a goodwill gesture outside of the warranty period.

First Treebuzz post for me but I read it daily for a few years now and learn a lot about trees and English language !
I have the same problem as Maarten . My T540ixp stop working. I changed first the user interface it was not the problem and then I changed the motherboard and I have the 4 lights flashing and the saw doesn’t work. Is it possible that another brand new motherboard is default? Maarten did they change you the default motherboard? Thank you.

First of all my machine was actually older then half a year.. i looked it up. It had 14 months of use on it... that is how i diceded to buy the motherboard my self. Without dealing with a reseller.. at a place called foretjardin on the www.

They told me that the motherboard needs to get calibrated via the husqvarna software..

I will go to my reseller and see what he can do for me. At anyrate the online store are cool about it. They will pay for the calibration or take back the motherboard.

Since i have now waited since june for this. I am going to try my luck with my (somewhat) local shop..

I'll report back here when i have news..

I have had my T540 fixed twice for the same issue: you could turn it on but it wouldn't do anything. Both times it was an electronic issue in the handle, squeezing the trigger was just not making contact. A simple fix for a tech but very annoying for me....

Thanks for replying,Maarten, I will do the same and make it calibrate . Hopefully it works and we can run this chainsaw again. If it works or not I will report too.
 
Welcome to the world of electronics and ECUs. Reminds me of when my friend gave me a pooched digital car stereo in the era when all volume knobs used to be potentiometers. Voodoo magic, $$ tools and $$ replace. rant over, just finished fighting with wife's car computer. It burped and relented for no rational reason or action.

That said heat kills electronics. Got to keep cooling surfaces and passages clean and let er spin to keep the forced convection. Even post cut spin to take out the heat soak. On that note I brake cleaner and air compressed air the fins on my 200T once in a while.
 
Yesterday, I got the chainsaw back from my local shop, and it's running again. For the update of the firmware they needed the serial number. I lost the sticker with all this details (pasted originally in the batterie slot of the chainsaw) and it took me time to find this number. Finaly, after searching throught the invoice and all my fotos, I found it in the husqvarna app where i had the chainsaw registered.
Thanks for the advise, I almost send the running motherboard back to the parts shop, thinking something was wrong with it.
