husky 372xp..

So my greenhorn just blew up my 372, I'm no mechanic and I was wondering if they are worth rebuilding (being that it will have to be paid for at a shop). I have another one that seems to just be getting used for spare parts and one other 372 that isn't running right, it sounds like it is running out of gas all the time. Any hints, suggestions, advice or random funny comments are appreciated.

Agreed 372's are great but bad groundies suck. Did he mix the fuel wrong or use the wrong gas? maybe take all your saws and start tearing them apart to rebuild one out of all the part saws. great way to learn the machanics of the saw.

My general foreman told me to just try and rebuild one. And no the fuel was fine I don't let anyone else mix the fuel but myself. He just has poor habits like running saws dull and not using dogs on stumps, which when dull is just screaming wide open. Also the day I took off to take my certified arborist test I came back to a saw with 2 broken anti vibe springs and he didn't know what happened. I feel bad in a way because he likes his job he just isn't catching on nor is he physically fit for it (5ft 11in 350+lbs, smokes). I go back to pre planning next month so if I don't lay him off, who ever he goes to work for will flat fire him.

Check your carb set up or your diapham in the carb is messed .Thats why I still have the old 268xp groundy proof. I just laid down the law with a contractor I work with, Break another saw you buy the saw and pay for my new one, and other equipment. He doesn't slam around my saws anymore after I took him to the saw shop.

Sounds like a training issue. Is it really all his fault?
Just askin. I know some trainees don't give a shi_.

I would NEVER hire this guy. An accident waiting to happen from the sounds of it. That's like me carrying myself around on my back before a lift a single stick, and I don't smoke. My brother is in that range, 350-375#. I have seen how much less productive a guy that is carrying around an extra 50-60 pounds can be, and that is with a lot less strain on his back. That extra size usually means that they can't/ won't lift properly either, IME.

Best of luck with it.

I try to tell him about everything, I tell him when he does good or bad. He is like 47 or 48 his machine shop went under( I didn't ask why) and another foreman hired him. He claims to have been running saws for thirty years and he just doesn't seem to kick any habits. We get stuck in pretty rough terrain sometimes that are harsh conditions for me and I am averagely (not a word haha) fit. Do you guys have any training tips for someone like this?

Claims usually mean not allot. Have him do a test have him show you what he can do.Ask him if and how he would fix your saws and machinery. Depending on what kind of machine shop he had he should have some good ideas. Training comes with working one on one with people. Some people take the "this is how we work " and go with it others I have no clue why they just don't care and waste your time. Give test ,show them how you want to see equipment run and stress not their saws don't beat it up, 3 strikes and your outta here.

Thanks for the advice, he didn't show up for work today with no call so that may be the end of that. I think it was a type of " I want to move up, I want to learn, how long till I get a raise" scenario and when he finally came to realize he was restricted to groundsman, he stopped putting full effort towards work and started missing days.

be like in college 3 days gone make a call and say " check is in the mail". I have been put in charge of some rough crews before and learned really fast control is the first thing you need, and understanding from everyone that what say on the job final. Raises are the whole show me what you can do, how well you do it,and can you do that everyday .

So back to the original question.... 'cause we have a dead 372xp I am thinking about trying to buy from my boss and get it fixed, big bore kit maybe. Anybody on here do that type of work, big bore kit and mod it so it really rips. how much $$$ would we be talking. Out saw was close to 8 years old and got used alot. Never had the wrong mix in it. Only saw in 8 years that ever died on use. We had 9 saws in the chip truck and 8 in the buck(now 8 and 8)

Just wondering...did it set up (can't pull it over) or does it just sound like it is running out of gas (peaking out). If it is just peaking out check you lines for holes, it might be sucking air from somewhere or it is the diagphram in the carb needs replacing. The high ethanol gas has done that to a few of our saws this winter. Cheap fix.

Fix it yourself. You can squeeze the rings in with your fingers, very simple to replace piston rings and jug. Check out above quote or might have a pinched or plugged vent for gas tank if this is it the thing will suck air when you run the saw and open filler cap..Good luck and maybe try mixing alittle richer fuel or turn down high rev screw or fire groundie.

The one my boss has was taken to a saw shop, they said the cylinder was scored or something, can't remember the exact phrase. They stopped right there because they know my boss would just buy a new saw instead of having it rebuilt.
