Hurricanes

Financially is it worth the trip, the inconvenience and crapping in a hole in someones yard>
Most of the Big Easy Money is gone already now it's getting competitive and the hacks are taking over. I've been told next week Florida is going to crack down hard and heavy on permitting and that's running a lot of people off

Wondering if a little patience will pay off for the legit companies who weren't in the initial rush to make quick money. I still haven't totally discounted the idea of bringing the TreeMek down there. Just have to have the logistics ironed out.

There are root balls standing around this whole town 8 to 15 foot tall. Yes there is money and stump but you're going to need a dozer and an excavator to get half of these. My equipment operator and I I've been scratching our heads on this one since we got here. How do we get a good standard price going where we can just these things out as quick as possible

I just got a contractor looking to hire more crews in Panama City Steve I mentioned your tree Mac and he sounded very interested. Get your numbers together in your head and we'll keep in touch

There are hundreds, if not thousands of stumps and root balls out here. Just have to find out how to sell them

Samaritan’s Purse is a volunteer organization set up in Wewahitchka. So many needs are here. If there are any brothers out there who feel compelled to help, please call. Climbers, a bucket truck, crane, for a day or two, for a week, or more...wherever you can help.

Licensing would be an issue would it not? I heard of people getting arrested down South for not being licensed to do tree work in that state. Varies from state to state I suppose.

Unless of course they are looking for out of state contractors due to the amount of damage and not enough in state contractors to handle it all ya?

Might have to but a local biz license, and pay local Business and O (Operations????) Insurance. Sales tax in WA. Etc. Check for insurance coverage with your agent(s).

Intrastate truck stuff may be different that interstate.

selling isn't as hard as doing them.. what's the issue???? $$$ ? performance???

we were working with the skid steer and grinder together on mathew in Hilton head... good combination.... sometimes able to push the tall ones back into the hole of they came up straight, and moving the debriswith loader makes the grinding much faster.. sometimes just grind off the dirt and let the loader move the chunk out to the street for fema pick up...

I don't recall any that were too big to grind... that one in the pic above was the biggest of 4-5 rootballs.. $1,800 thinking it took about 3-4 hours

The problem down here is most of these people don't have a lot of money. I'd say a quarter of these properties are going to wind up being total losses, so every dime they pay comes out of what they get for their new build. I would say at least half of the houses are still unoccupied, how do you sell a job to someone that's not even there?
They're beginning to drop the hammer on having all of your state and local business licenses and have outrageous fines and penalties if you get caught operating without them. If anybody does plan on trying to come down at this point take your time and get everything in line before you leave.

Intrastate is very complicated and if you don't have a USDOT number you'll have to pull a permit for every single state you pass through as well as the IFTA taxes.

Hmmm...where did I leave off. In short. Sooo much work is needed to restore hope to such a dismal area. The song Survivor from Zach Williams is so appropriate.
Here’s a few stats you might be interested in:
In this area alone...
1146 homes totally destroyed
1852 major structural damages
2400 minimum damages
85-90% of the community has been effected.
Here are some Samaritan’s Purse stats to date:
Over 860 work orders
46 have been completed
719 are WiP
620 daily volunteer hours
Almost 5000 man hours to date.
Phew...

I am from Florida as far as I am aware the state has no licensing requirments for tree services land clearing etc. Cities or counties may require something though. However for anything construction or roofing related licensing is required. The state is well aware of shady companies coming in after storms and usually posts signs about unlicensed contracting being a felony, fines, arrest, etc
