How to remove stem close to wall

How do I remove these two lime trees? The stem is pushing the wall, so there is absolutely no space between them. The customer wants the trees removed, so the old (protected) wall doesn't become more damaged than it already is.
The stumps are filled with dirt, rocks and such - so I have no idea how to cut them down to a height, where I can stumpgrind them.

Any ideas??

Get close to the wall with ripping down the trunk, then ax and chisel.

Agree, open ticket/ time and materials.

Agree with HO that part of the stump will be left in place when grinding. As you grind, have a piece of plywood against the wall in case the wheel grabs and pulls the machine forward, and/or if you can, anchor the machine if it is self-propelled, with an powered extendable tongue.

You could give them a bid price for the tree cut to the height of the wall. Then start time and materials.

Maybe a carbide toothed circle saw like is used for cutting concrete.

Electric or air jackhammer

Get it down to the wall, or even higher for leverage, get a rope wrapped on the top of the spar to some kind of mechanical advantage. Start using an air knife or dig to get below grade and cut the support roots and pull away from wall. I like Toms idea of giving a bid on the tree to a certain stopping point - then going from there.

Cut them down to the height of the wall and then start in with an axe, maul and wedges and even an chainsaw cut now and then. If they are indeed hollow you might be surprised.....it may only take a couple of days!

If an opening can be made at the base long sections may be able to be split away.

Remove the spar to just above the wall.
Make a vertical cut about 2 inches (5cm) away from the wall on the stump, so when you cut the stump you stay away from the wall. Make the final stump cut a couple inches (5-7cm)above grade. Leave the vertical slab there to protect the wall when grinding. Remove the vertical slab last. Definitely do the part below the wall at 'time and materials'. Have a steel wedge, sledge hammer and axe handy.
You will not be able to completely grind the stump without damaging the wall. Make sure that's documented in the contract.

This is your best bet for minimum damage. Air-spade out the root system, carefully cutting roots that are penetrating the wall. Like everyone else says, go on the clock for the stump removal, looks like it's going to be a nightmare...Good Luck!

I would do as Norm suggests....

cut verticle 2 inches from wall from top to bottom...then cut pieces on an angle (like pie) plunge cut the bottom.

place a piece of tape on the saw bar to show the distance (depth) go slow and then pull the back pieces away last...

We finally got them grinded.
The stumbs contained: Rocks, iron, tiles and a lot of dirt.

I had to tear the last bit off the wall with a wire winch.
