How often do you foot lock into trees?

definately somethin to ponder!! great discussion! Its kind of funny maybe a bit off topic but what motivates me to buy machines for lifting is the way my body feels from moving wood the "old" way and not wanting my young guys to have go through it! I feel like the more reps I can take off their bodies the longer they will feel good! cycles to failure works for the bod too huh?!

How many 65 years do you see production climbing let alone footlocking?

That's my point. W need to find better ways to climb and work if we want to maintain climbing efficiently into our older ages.

In my opinion, footlocking is not a way to do it, but you will always have the exceptions to the norms.

Or it strengthens it.Evertime you lift things properly our bodies have a way of forming more muscle machines dont. But I agree with you Taitree I try to buy ever piece of equipment to make my employees jobs easier and so they dont have to endure the abuse I put my body thru. But one thing I noticed when I lift logs properly I feel its more of a benefit then detriment kinda like working out-but we have a mini for the big stuff.

Brett Favre would be dead if he was in our line of work. This industry has enough cowboys as it is.

...I can't believe I actually made a post about that SOB self centerd weasel. I hope he chokes again.

We see genetic freaks like Brett Favre who continue to go strong even though he did every thing in the world to destroy his body-was even addicted to pain killers for years.

Brett Favre is nothing special trust me...and this is coming from me a person that has lived in green bay for 16 years and I am 21...just wait he records will fall except one...the interception one

Hollen I agree with you 100 percent as far as the wrist are concerned. In fact talking to other arborist that seems to be the biggest complaint wrist problems.I solved my problems somewhat keeping my chainssaws and handsaws really sharp and refusing to use them when there not.Recently Ive had problems from starting the saw alot but it finally went away. Its just a fact of our of mortallity theses bodies are not made to last forever and will all breakdown eventually.

Cartilage doesn't strengthen like muscles, at least that I've ever heard. Inter-vertebral discs, either.

I try to stress to my employees: 2 eyes, 2 ears, one back per liftime.

One of the things that I did last month was go see Ed Carpenter's sister Dr. Amanda Carpenter at her office in NY.

She specializes in helping Industrial Athletes such as ourselves setup a training routine based on our past injuries and weak points and then makes a customized flexability and strengthing program based on those needs.

I think that its one of the best things that I have done for my body that will help me climb productively in later life.

All my years of heavy competative powerlifting have left me with many chronic aches and pains that need to now be addressed and fixed if possible.

Sorry, not trying to derail the thread on footlocking, just thought that it was pertanent to it.

it all comes down to a simple thing...ya gotta pick your parents ;)

seriously though, I do agree, genetics play an important role in what we can and cannot do in our job.

I really just started footlocking, so I don't have enough time at it to say it could be bad for me; but I really don't foresee any problems.

mental attitude has a lot to do with stuff, if the mind believes it, the body can heave it...
I read that in powerlifting USA mag years ago.

I still follow it to this day.

cheers gentlemen :)

I pretty much footlock everything with ascenders. The only time I don't is when the tree is little and a few body thrusts will get me to the first limb.

I think it's the easiest way into a tree.

I can see where tree comps supporting bad habits could be an issue. if there are people footlocking for no other reason than training for the comps that is not a good thing. And it goes against one of the main purposes of the comps, to train good work practices. there are much easier ways into the trees. at work I try to conserve as much energy as possible for the next day

Its really only worth 20 points Kevin and thats if you win the event. The speed belay isnt exactly very practical either. With throwline being up to 30 points now you dont even have to place in footlock and still go to the masters.I think footlocking is a great method to ascend a tree if your good at it or have the potential to be good at it.But there are easier methods for sure that alot of climbers should take advantage of.I just like the simplicity and speed of footlocking. When im in good shape its relatively easy to do 50 feet.

That's the main reason I foot-lock right now, is to train for the comps. With hand ascenders it's ok, because its easier to take a break and you have something that easier to hold on to. I've been experiementing with SRT the past few months, but most of the time I just use a Pantin and an ascender, along with my hitch, because most of the trees are short enough that its all I need. I'm working on creating a rope walker set up right now. That is going to be pretty sweet because I could use it for both DdRT and SRT.

For me it all depends on the week. Last week I had several tall trees where my rope was set away from the trunk. I footlocked every day a couple of times my rope was set at 80 feet and I got there in 2 minutes. For me footlocking is the easiest way into the tree. I have tried ascenders but for me they are no easier than a good old prussic.

im not nockin footlockin. I love it, its beautiful and its one of the most exciting events at the comps. throwline is worth 30 now? wow.
