I've seen this video but do not know anything about it, people or place. I was struck by how comfortable the old boy looked up there, must've done a bunch of cutting in his life. The spikes are common here, and for poles, once accustomed to them, are very comfortable. There are different spike patterns, for the most have two long spikes on the outside and one or two much shorter ones on the inside. The chap in the video had very short 'long' spikes, custom made perhaps? I ran a weeks worshop in November and the last two days looked at joining cranes into roped rigging systems. It is not uncommon here.Do you guys remember that video from japan? Taking down a big redwood type of tree at a temple, climber was wearing unusual spurs. They appeared to have small spikes on his heels and he leaned back into his flip line and moved around quite nimbly. They had a couple of cranes there and I couldn’t tell if the one down the hill was being used to pull the logs off the stem, but some kind of serious pull was being applied. His cutting technique was odd too but what I’m getting at is perhaps this is an accepted practice there? And our circus clown just cut too much holding wood with his dull saw and botched the plan? @SoftBankHawks ?
That music would be great for pruning work.I have seen some wicked spurs on Japanese climbers.
I don't think this is a production tree guy though, he just fiddles with equipment all day and seems to have an unlimited budget for tree toys.
I think this is the one you’re talking about.
Can you elaborate on how the crane is incorporated into the rigging system?I've seen this video but do not know anything about it, people or place. I’m pretty sure but not positive there is a video when he is working higher up. Haven’t seen it in a while though so I might be wrong. If anyone knows it post a link please .I thought he was wearing Wesco Highliners at first. Check out his foot gear: ninja-type boots with cloven toes and attached cleats. True Magic Boots. Amazing to see something like this. I'm not sure they're set to gain a toehold in the American market, so to speak. Who knows!
He is the one person there who understood physics and therefore knew he was safe.Dude's just like "Damn dude. Y'all are dumb."
