Hook lift???

I recently bought a 2005 F-550 with an Ampirol hooklift and the hook has at over an inch of play and bounces to the left and right as I'm driving down the road and sometimes the can kicks to the left as I'm loading it back on the truck and have to put it back on the ground and start over. The seller is telling me it's normal but I'm worried something is failing and don't know who to take it to in my area to get checked out and fixed. My question is should the hook have so much play in it if any? Thanks

Yep, call them. Sounds like it’s out of adjustment/worn pretty badly.

I talked to Adam at Ampliroll today and he was very helpful. Just need to do some welding to replace and repair a few worn parts.

Thanks for the welcome Merle!! I found this forum months ago researching hook lift and switch and go systems. Like you I'm glad I chose a hook lift.

Glad it's just some modest repairs/upkeep.

If I recall that unit is rated for 10,000 lbs. It wouldn't be too hard to frequently push it up near its max - over it doing some tree work.
