Home made rope guide

Probably, but look for the apropriate safety codes.

Those rings, slings, ropes and pulleys must "meet or exeed" the standard for climbing gear.

If you make a drop in your rope the stress on the anchorpoint is extremely high.

Your life depends on the material, so don't sell yourself cheap.

The first one like this also had a big ring to fit the edelrid pulley. Problem with that one was that the kg.'s hardware are enorm (try and catch that one coming out of the tree...). It will smack you uncontious:-). Another problem I had was that the hardware was so big that the big ring was crushing the bark of the tree (the small diameter treetop versus the big disk of the ring). The prussic-rope thru the ring works as a lever. The third problem I had was that the big ring and edelrid pulley got stuck on twigs and crotches in the tree while tumbling down (yea, yea I know I should use a throwline to get the gear down).

Svein I think you should look at the link in oskar's post, but here is a preview:

Treespotter,
This is what I'm gonna try. I think the throwline from the top will pull it apart good. If it doesn't...where might I ask do you all get those clevis'/harps from?

I havn't really seen up close the "harp" that seems to be used. What exactly is a harp? But my sollution was to buy a snap at the ACE hardware store for 2.00$ and attach it to the prussic with spliced zing it. It seems to work well, I worried that if I pulled to hard than I might break it, but i havent really had any problem so far. The whole system pops right out of the tree. The snap works a lot better than a small ring because you can attach it and detach it midline easily. When I am working close to the pulley, I can detach it if it is getting in the way and then reatach it when I move away.

Good idea. I know it would be simpler to by a rope guide, but I already have all this stuff laying around my living room. Plus its more fun making your own. /forum/images/graemlins/grinyes.gif
