Saw one used in a video and want to give it a try. Any recommendations on where to start for selecting a hollow braid material that works well in this application?

Would be nice if it was offered in several sizes. Plan is to try on 3/8”-1” sized DB.

I know D-Splicer makes a few sizes but would like to try the DIY approach first.

Thanks Brocky. I ordered a few feet of each to try.

This was the video I watched.

Looking around on Yale's website, I wonder if what they used in the video was a "Yale Grip" .pdf at bottom of page.

Just sounds dirty…

Ive been using a d-splicer for the past 6 months or so. Used it on 8mm, 9.3mm, and 10mm hitch cord. And used it on plenty of 11 or 11.5mm climbing ropes. Makes splicing tough stuff like tachyon really manageable.

One thing I would say is that you need to be gentle with it as the ends tend to fray and unravel. Granted, mine is no where near needing to be replaced but its something to keep in mind. I tend to immediately wrap it up and put it away immediately after use and put it in a place where its not going to get picked at.

I always use Samsons splicing book. This was surprising to see them insert the core first, rather than the cover first. May give this a try some time.

I insert the core first because it tends to hold itself in place while I mess with the cover.

I did receive the samples of the dyneema chafe sleeve and either I am doing something wrong or they dont work well. May try some of the cheaper expandable sleeving used for wire/cable protection.

There are two or three differences, the most obvious is not needing to bury the core past the eye, but yet it retains the same strength.

What’s happening that it isn’t working for you?
