Hitch Climber Expertise Needed...

Thanks for posting your experience as a bigger guy using SRT for pruning, Magnum783. It definitely adds to the available knowledge base on SRT.

Bigger is given a bad stigma with SRT I was totally against it for a longtime but after using it I can not understand why you would not want to. I am thinking of going to a hitch hiker to use a second for removals as I don't like SRT for removals. Just my preff, it would work just I don't feel as smooth as I move around with my VT, or distal.

I recently ordered a hitch climber setup (have been climbing on a taughtline hitch forever) and I am curious about termination knot possibilities. My climbing line does not have a spliced eye, nor do I really feel like spending the money to get one at this juncture, but I am aware of the potential problems with the termination knot affecting the friction hitch. Is there an alternative termination knot that can be used that will not affect the friction hitch?

I have one line too w/o a splice came up with this:

BatPlate_Crop.webp

It doesn't interfere with the friction hitch, all is in line and it offers quick on/off. I guess that it will also absorb some energy if a shockload happens.

is has no rubber inside the holes
Lol well I need my glasses then, I am going to get one of this plates cause I hate to use the hitch climber pulley when my rope doesn’t have an eye, o well, I love ropes with no eyes when I ascend SRT and then work with the Spiderjack 3.

Thanks, @Howie65; I appreciate the help. That particular rigging plate did not turn up for some reason when I used the TreeStuff search function. I don't know what I did wrong there.

@JCJC7; did you see Howie's link above? It might be exactly what you're looking for.

Yeah, I’ll get one to see how it works with the hitch climber pulley, I have a couple non spliced ropes.

I think it's important to be aware that while it is common to use non spliced ropes with the hitch climber pulley, the owners manual of the pulley requires us to use a splice as a termination.
Does anyone know if the new DMM eccentric pulley says the same in its manual?

May I ask for a link to the mentioned manual? I only found a common manual about several pulleys from DMM and inside is nothing about spliced or stitched ends.

But I think we are all aware about that the chosen connection must not interfere with the friction hitch. And with the rigging plate that is exactly what should be achieved

You are totally right. I was misinformed and misremembered. I definitely retract what I said. I took the papers off of a brand new one today and found nothing of the sort. My bad!
