Histree Treehouse is history

several relevant points for me. Ascension via stem holds with a trap door--sound familiar, Tom? I'd hate to cut through your ultrasafe floor, but unless I figure out a way to get kids up the straight vertical way safe and toot suite, that may happen. (this re a nice house in my woods Tom built 15m up a Q alba) PS still have bookoo work here...

Double whammy on roots w moisture and fertility up close, and horses around. Too bad they didn't add the moisture and fertility further away. My pasture tenants want to break the lease because I am 'unreasonable' because I want them to add dirt to protect recently exposed roots. Good riddance to bad actors say I. horses are tree-killers, no doubt.

Yeah Scott that had to be a relief. It's hard to say goodbye to a tree when it crosses the hazard threshold, but worse yet not to.

The guylines holding the tree up were cut on the 4th of July, 2010 . The tree is now down on the ground. End of an era.

The Kirbyville Giant is another Quercus kellogii California Black Oak nearby on Myers Flat. It died & was topped off, with the stump that remains.

After seeing the tree swallow my knife, the pic is in one of Scott's posts above, I'm stunned the it finally fell. Not that it fell...that it was 4 years ago that I was there with Scott!

Tom was nervous under the tree four years ago! I sure wish I had been there to see it come down. I had "encouraged" Michael Garnier to cut the cables as I was worried about the tree collapsing with them attached.
I will be down there soon to work and it will be fun to see the bones.
When I first saw this tree I took a 6 inch increment bore and it had 350+ rings in it..I made a keepsake for Michael with his birth year marked...it has not been seen recently I will bet some samples from the tree...it must have been ancient!
IMO horses took decades off the life of this tree!
Scott
