Hiring in Findlay, Ohio

ATH

Been here much more than a while
Location
Findlay, Ohio
I have generally worked with part time/temporary help and, frankly, never really looked hard for another arborist. Decent help has kind of found its way to me through referrals, but nobody "permanent" yet. I had a very good helper for 3 years who came with a Natural Resources degree just wanting something for summer work not knowing what his next move was. He recently moved out of town with a career path in arboriculture as an ISA Certified Arborist.

I say all that to get to here: That departure lead me to realize how valuable a more qualified helper is. So now I'm looking. If you have many years of experience and are ready to hit the ground running fast...great! I'll take it. Are you just getting into trees, but know this is where you belong so are willing to work hard and learn? Great! There is a place for you, and I'll help you get there.

Why here:
  • I think I'm an easy guy to work with.
  • Expect to be respected.
  • You can leave each day knowing the trees are in better shape because of your work - we focus on pruning and maintenance.
  • No commercial utility clearance.
  • Almost no removals (a few modest size trees here and there that are part of a larger job). Not that removals aren't necessary...just not our focus.
  • Obviously, we need to serve the clients who call, but there is flexibility here to find what you enjoy doing most.
  • Report to shop each day and take company vehicles to job site.
  • No overnight travel (for jobs...sometimes for conferences or training).
  • Oh, about those conferences/training. Costs will be covered. I want you to be the best ;)
  • Equipment and PPE provided.
  • Company has been established for 19 years.
  • Generally have about 2+ months of work booked ahead (I'd like to shorten client wait times...but do like knowing we've got plenty of work).
I haven't had need to offer benefits yet...but recognize that is likely going to be part of hiring a good employee, so we'll figure it out. Health/Vision/Dental/Life insurance and retirement are all on the table for discussion.

Yes, paid time off.

Pay range? An ISA Certified Arborist with minimal experience would start about $22-25 per hour (depending on what we figure out with benefits). 40 hours/week. I have no set maximum. Show me what you are worth to our clients and that'll be your pay!

Let me know if this sounds tempting and I can get you a more "formal" job posting...but this covers most everything.

Sounds like a great opportunity

Do y'all have a college in your area???

I lived in Cleveland and worked for Davey 12ish years ago. I loved the area.
Yes...University of Findlay is right here in town. Ohio Northern is 40 minutes away south. Tiffin and Heidleberg are 30 minutes away east. Bluffton University is 30 minutes away southwest. Bowling Green 30 minutes north. University of Toledo, an hour north.

None of those have great programs that would feed into arboriculture. Owens community used to have a program for landscaping that included a little arboriculture, but that's no more. Over by Cleveland, I think Cuyahoga Community College is has a program I think.

I do have 2 summer helpers (one just started) who are profs at University of Findlay. I've worked with one of those to help him teach some tree climbing to students - partly recreational, partly to help with some of his research. I keep hoping one of those students will want to pursue a career in arboriculture, but no luck so far.
