I once was seriously asked to remove a (stem one meter wide) maple in a small backyard. First branch started at 1,5 meter. No way you could get there. Had to walk (100 meter to the nearest parking) the stuff out in a small wheelbarrow.
"No,no, You don't have to send me a bill. You can have all the wood for free."
I politely declined and informed them that there probably would be lots of treeworkers who would love to do the work for free and get payed in wood.

I wonder what age those people live in.

We had a local CL ad that they wanted to sell the trees. They actually said they wanted $1500 for a lic/ins/bonded prof to remove the trees (because of proximity to house). If I remember right there were 6 of them. Over time the price came down to free.

Here's one I just noticed:

We need a person who's experienced in trimming trees and using an electric chainsaw. You must have experience in trimming trees and not be afraid to use a 12' ladder
to trim these trees. Definitely a NON-SMOKING person with your own car. 8 hours x $12 per hour = $96.00 paid cash at the end of the day.
EXPERIENCED in tree trimming only. Not someone who presumes they know how to trim or have done it only once or twice. Someone who's done this type of
work before and is in between jobs. Reply in writing only. Tell us about yourself -- and your experience. Leave your phone number and what's the best time to call you.
One to two days PLUS worth of work as well as other jobs need doing around our house - carrying fire wood, garden work, digging, general labour.
Look forward to hearing from you. This job is located in Coquitlam near Coquitlam Centre. Not on a bus route, you need your own car. You must be hardworking and
dependable and will show up to get the job done. Thanks!!
