Hiking in gear

Looking for some advice,

Got a big transmission job next, heap of climbing and falling to maintain clearance down an easement.

Problem is, it’s 40 degrees Celsius here, the line runs down a hill approx 55-60 degree slope of rocky, thick overgrown hell for close to a kilometre before popping back out on a road.

Got 3 men that need to carry in 2 sets climbing gear and saws, falling saws, fuel oil, some snacks, water, radios first aid kit.

Anyone know of a really good kit bag or backpack that might make the journey through this a little easier?

An external frame pack might be useful for saws and fuel, with a little custom set-up.

We used a frame pack with a small fabricated woodenshelf, and a ratchet strap or two for a twin-ram Silvey jack with remote reservoir. Maybe 40 pounds or so.

Maybe something along these lines.

Some trekking poles, aka sticks for hiking, would be useful, I'd think. I used to be a backpacking guide. Very helpful up and down steep terrain with a backpack that can't be easily dropped.

Perhaps a part of the tump-strap on the forehead is its easy ability to be be ditched on a steep terrain before it tips the carrier.

Look up the Dakine Builders Pack. MSR Fuel cans or a Dolmar duel oil gas can. Hydration bladders instead of water bottles. There are no great answers besides everyone having a heavy pack and most likely someone carrying a saw.

MEC has a similar designed trail pack (used by mountain bikers)

In my experience if you’re looking for a product that’s similar but different to your industry ... another industry probably has it

Hiking ?
Difficult terrain?
Saws, fuel, oil, axes, wedges?

Check to see what wildfire fighters are using :birra:

Here is a setup using a frame like southsound linked. Doing an island job this winter with bad access, this looked like a good option and way cheaper than the wildland packs. Decent diy setup. If possible hike in a 5gal of mix so you dont have to bring fuel each day too, we ran out a couple days...
