Hey, I thought Ice was brumel spliced...

Ron, note that the first diagram in Step #6 shows a tuck that isn't there. Shame on Samson.

If you are making a prusik cord, may I suggest not filling the whole rope with core, as Samson shows? If you make your Brummels and then bury 4 or 5 inches of tail, you will have a sling that can lift a truck, but the center part where the friction coils will be will be single-thickness. For me, at least, this arrangement has performed extremely well.

It's not pure technora but a technora/polyester blend.

The WesSpur catalog describes it thus: "An extremely heat-resistant, 12 strand prusik from Samson that is easy to splice, has a soft feel, and makes great eye and eye tails. 80% Technora/20% polyester blend. 8,500 lb. breaking strength."

As far as the monofilament core to the strands is concerned, I wonder if you could be thinking of some other rope? 5/16-in Tenex has such a core, and it is very evident, but I haven't seen any sign of such a thing in Ice Tail.

I would disagree on not burying and crossing over in the center of said rope. I would do the bury and crossover on the Ice. It gives it a much nicers smoother feel over the flatness of the center once climbed on similar to the all gear tech cord.

Here are two pictures that may illustrate how Ice is made. I just spliced some this week and the scraps are at the top of the trash. The first picture is a close up of one of the strands. The color of the strands is teal and gold. The gold is the natural color of the technora (it's a goldish brownish color) and the teal is from the samthane coating they put on the rope after it's all woven together.

and the second shows that same strand sortof separated. You will notice that one of the strands is more white than gold. That is the "filler" strand in the middle of each of the ice strands...

Judging by the feel of it and how it melts, I really think the filler strands are polyester.

For what it's worth, about half of the people that order Ice eye-eyes from me get it with the full bury and the other half do the "normal" short tails. I do my ice-tails 5" long and tapered the last 2.5"

I prefer the short tails, personally.
