Help with Rope Burn

A harness called the "GI Rig" may work out well for you. It is made of rope tied to form a loop. That and a figure eight or a munter hitch and a biner would get you to the ground. Another harness made from rope and used for rescue is the "Oversized diaper' harness.

I wish I could remember how to tie a Swiss seat. Any one have any illustrations or links? I do remember it was fairly comfortable for what it was.

Hey come to think of it the military rappels out of helicopters with gloves and very thick rope, while also using a foot lock hold.
Excellent post @Sgriff.

I think the Munter hitch, biner and cheap harness is probably the best solution. If you don't want to clank the carabiner around you could pre rig it in the tree.

Ok, now I have to ask, are you leaving your rope in the tree between visits? And I'm guessing you don't use any kind of restraint or fall arrest system while up in the tree?

A cheap rock climbing harness and a mutner with a hitch backup. You can go up the rope on the hitch, and stay tied in for a nap or just fall arrest. Slap a munter under the hitch for going down. Simple, cheap, and very safe. Probably wouldn't need gloves at all

Evo, we may be only preaching to the choir, as it is sometimes hard, or impossible to convert the "sinners."

I am leaving the rope 'tween visits, I do have an old lasso with a Dclip on it that i hook around me, and i've tested works good,

I would urge you to replace your rope with something like a cheaper smaller diameter polypropylene rope to leave between visits. Your rope would last longer and be safer. Sunlight degradation, squirrels chewing, somebody tampering with it could cause the rope to fail.
