Help with help?

I’m needing some advice. I have a established business for 18 + yrs. Started knocking on doors and talking to everyone I could find in the “green industry.”

I just got divorced this month after 24yrs. I tried to look for another line of work but, I keep coming back to what I know best and enjoy the most.

I have 2 bulging disks in the lumbar region and I should stop climbing also, finding anyone with experience has been my biggest issue! The only one’s with experience are the line clearing guys with 2 to 3 months experience. (Know one knows what a rope and saddle is?) I have a very good repetition, and respected in the community. I’ve always stated that Honesty 1st then Quality and everything else will follow. And it has.

I love what I do, educating my customers about their trees, landscape, advicing them in what they need and what they don’t. I always like the challenge each job brings.

There’s only 3 nurseries in town and the 2 most respected ones refer their tree work to us. In the last 12+ years we have been busy with out any slow down except in the last recession along with the hottest summer on record an a year and a half drought.

So any ideas on how to make an established business continue?

I have enjoyed all the Professional advice you all have given, I’ve laughed and learned a lot from The Buzz.

Any and all your comments and suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Also if anyone is looking for a job an wants to relocate to sunny South Texas email me etsjsn1@gmail.com (You will never need your snow shovel again!)

Thanks

Joe-

Post a detailed position description for the position(s) that you to fill on the TB Job Finder Section.

Good Luck.

Seems like you need to hire a good climber and/ or foreman for your crew.

Seems like as your body is telling you to rest it and take care of it, your experience, and maybe additional education, if needed, can get you moving toward more paid consulting and evaluation services. A Wraptor sounds like it would be really helpful if the physical requirements of climbing and working in a tree are too much, so as to allow you to do more inspection/ evaluation/ diagnosis.

Perhaps it will mean Errors and Omissions Insurance and/ or other insurances. Perhaps more training and credentials for evaluation, diagnosis, treatment.

If you belong to ISA you can post on their website as well. Be clear on the duties and responsibilities and level of skill you're looking for.

You may also look to apprentice someone. Learning you're approach to the work and business.
