heat exhaustion

The heat is tricky. It talks to you, saying, "Oh, just one more." And then, 20 minutes later, its one more day in bed or one more trip to the hospital.

The humidity is more what hampers cooling.

By 9 or 10AM I can be soaked through all my clothes. I wear light wool socks, which have more padding and are cooler than cotton and keep my feet dry. The Arborware Techs are cooler than their lightweights. In the heat, wet or dry, the tech pants are cooler than the tshirts and don't get soggy. There's even a possibility they are dry by the time lunch is over.

Keith, I'll bet you can find a good local tailor to size down your tech pants.

We switched from polyester work shirts to a 50-50 cotton-poly tshirt this season. Much improved, but we have a large logo screened across the back which is the first thing to sweat up.

Powdered Gatorade is an economic must. I mix a gallon batch and dump a half gallon of ice on it. A little less than full strength leaves less aftertaste.

I'm just the opposite. I like to mix it a 'lil stronger than it normally is.

When I've over done it in the heat I start to get a real slight headache. Sort of like muscles tightening in my scalp. When this starts I call it a day. I've never suffered heat stroke or heat exhaustion so listening to my body just may be working.

I love Gatorade but it is to strong and has to much sugar. I get the powdered mix at wally world.

I have a gallon jug and I usually dump a 32 oz gator/poweraid in and freeze it overnight. Before work in the morning, I top it off with water. The frozen power drink keeps the water cool through the day and thickens the mix as it melts.

For about two weeks it was over 90 consistently, I also wore my camelbak loaded with water. I have a no-frills 50-ouncer that never gets in the way. It was a huge help to be able to sip away while climbing.

On a side note, my gallon jug leaks something fierce. Anybody got a good one?

My water jugs are from juice that I get at Costco. They have a bail handle on top. To keep it cold I fit some pieces of closed cell foam around it. A jug cozy. Frozen half full of iced tea and topped off with fridge tea.

At $80/pair, they're gonna have to have them delivered by a tailor who will then correct the fit. Am I just a cheapskate, or is that way too expensive? Sorry to the arborwear folks--I hate to hear "I can get the guy up the street to trim my trees for half that" but even a good pair of pants is beyond my budget at $80.
