TH,
Thoughts and best wishes for your full heal.....

Isn't is strange that when it happened.. in an instant... the brain first denies that it happened?

Bad things happen so fast....

Thanks for sharing..... Your experience is providing an opportunity to talk with my crew about what happens and what happend AFTER it happens!!!!

hang in there brother!
Get well quick!

Once again, thanks for the support. I'm trying to journal this so the whole experience of an injury is realized. It's too easy to go from bloody mess to cool scar without really appreciating the in between ordeal.

Rotting meat....LOL Lovely, F&*K'n lovely. Got the antibiotic cream on it and an early appt with the doc. I suspect he'll be getting out the pruning shears and reducing the stub back to good wood.

Back from the hand doc and it's off to surgery Friday to remove the nail and clean up a slight infection before taking the next step. Could be amputation or removal of dead flesh and then a graft. It appears there were 2 fractures not 1.

On another round of antibiotic.

That was funny.

You'll be okay. Plenty of people with missing finger tips. Keep us posted. Interesting. Hope the best for you.

Had a Gym teacher in Jr. High missing a varying degrees of all his fingers. Sort of a ragged mess. But could this guy launch a football, and it was more like a launching than a throw!

At this point it seems to be the degree of removal. I'll try and get some pics in the operating room if they let me.

My Dad lost the first digit on his left thumb and first two on his index finger. that never slowed him down in typing, sorting mail as a clerk for the US Post Office or teaching me, well, trying to anyway, knots and other camping outdoor skills.

It's the recovery that is the hassle not so much the end result. My wife keeps busting my chops asking, "How will you ever type!?"

Gotta love the buzz...

Well, no pics in the operating room but did get these from the follow up visit. Dead tissue and nail removed and the infection clean up. Doc things it looks good and we're hoping it will heal over itself. Back to him next Monday.

Closing in on a month since the accident and time to start some therapy. Whirlpool therapy to remove dead tissue and range of motion to get the finger mobile again. I wonder if I can get all of me in that whirlpool or will they only do the finger? Now that would be great therapy!

My Dad lost the first digit on his left thumb and first two on his left index finger. It never stopped him from typing and keyboarding later on in life.

I do a lot more backspacing now....

Therapy today to remove the build up of dead tissue on the finger in general. This keeps the bacteria levels down. Some range of motion stretching to get the first knuckle mobile again. We'll hold off on any sort of stretching for the 2nd knuckle since there's some concerns about the tendon.

That's been the killer. I'd gladly trade working in this heat than dealing with this. More therapy today. Better range of motion but still regenerating the skin.
