havent tried it yet.

i have been climbing on and been working with a hundred diffenrt splices, for over ten years,, but have never tried my own,, how does one get started,, i would like to be able to splice blaze at some point,, but there is the whole dont know where to start, and am scared of the safety issues,, i have met hunderds of tree workers in my area ,, but none of them have offerd to show me how,, or maybe they dont know either,,

Cashmoney,

I think everyones going to say different ways to start but I first started with Tenex. I tried doing 16 strand first but I didnt have the patience yet and didnt have all the correct tools, so I gave up and went to Tenex. Once I got the feel for that with homemade fids and pushers, I bought samson's splicing guide and their splicing kit. Def helps getting started! Once I got a feel for tenex, I did hitch cords because their cores are hollow braid like tenex. Just have to get a hang of putting the cover back on or keeping it on. Then finally moved into double braid rigging lines and double braid climbing lines (blaze, PI, tachyon, etc.) Before you go buying the kits, you can get alot of instructions off of samson's website and some of the other rope manufacturer's sites as well. Hopefully this helped and others can add on!

Good luck.

Oh and I also had some of my splices tested to give myself some security.

I agree with YoungBuzzer--start with Tenex. The really good news: to make an eye splice according to Samson's instructions, you don't need any tools at all. I have plenty of tools, but for Tenex I just use my fingers. You will need a sewing needle to sew the throat when you are done. Try pulling it apart with your truck when you are done and, when your rear axle comes off, you will start to have confidence in your splices.

moray..that is advice i can understand,, tie it to a truck....it was about seven years ago i worked with a real soiled veteran, ruff as they come,, took his advice on some things, but he told me one day if you really want to trust your climbing line ,, use it for rigging a couple of times a month, well i never have but the point is test it before you use it,, right

TOM? have we met?

I believe so... NEC-ISA comp at Look Pahk. I judged at the non-belayed friction climb, I mean speed climb. You dropped your cell phone but I didn't DQ you 'cause the event was such a bitch and you were only a couple feet off the ground at that point. That was you, right?
