What did the lumps look like inside?

It seemed like the cover just got soaked in resin. Core seemed unaffected. But was stuck fast to the interior of the cover. The cover holds a corner when bent and crackles and let's off little clouds of resin dust. Cut open a spot not as affected and the interior of the cover strands felt soft and supple. The spot felt hard sticky and brittle
