Happy Boxing Day

Thank you.
I had an unusual Xmas.
Wife went home to see her parents and other family she still has in the UK.
I stayed here with the dog, we went to the beach house and spent a few days there.
We have cable there so I watched Breaking Bad, starting from the pilot. Got to series 2 episode 5 before deciding to come back to the main house.
So basically I spent Christmas in Alberquerque.

Happy Boxing Day!
Or as we call it in the US, Happy National Go Play With That Shit In Your Room Day.

This shit is depressing this year. Haven’t really left the house since Thursday, it’s wild out there.

Calm winds and just some snow now, but it was crazy and it’s still a mess. Driving bans still in effect, abandoned cars littering the roads, so the plows and snow removal equipment can’t always get through. A little further north in the city, people are looting stores. Severely delayed EMS, Fire Rescue and first responder service has cost some lives and a few buildings have burned. Death toll around 25 so far. Some of these abandoned cars have dead bodies in them or nearby buried in the drifts, so that number will rise. All these first responders and public works employees gotta be exhausted.

I’m bummed that I couldn’t see my kids on Christmas. I’ve always had my daughter for every Christmas since she was born, and I missed one Christmas with my son in 05 during a military deployment, that shit was depressing. These piles of unopened gifts under the tree are bugging me. Not the end of the world though. For some folks this storm really was the end of their world. Still grateful that we (my household as well as family friends and neighbors) are warm, safe, and well fed. Counting my blessings. I got a great woman, very cool how we can literally spend whole weeks in each other’s company without wearing on one another’s nerves. Mother in law and father in law are in the attached apartment upstairs, and yesterday MIL made some amazing stuffed manicotti. The day before I did a slow cooker beef stew that came out awesome. Fresh Italian bread still hot from the oven. So many cookies lol. Almost out of milk and the half and half is long gone so we’re drinking our coffee black in case my stepson wants a bowl of cereal or something. Appreciating the great people I have with me now, and trying to not get wrapped up in sorrow from missing my other loved ones. Maybe I’ll pour a drink and go see if I can get the fuel out of the riding mower, I’ll probably need it for the snowblower, it’s almost empty.

Sorry for the long rant and rave. I’m a little bored and restless. The mind wanders. It’s not as much snow as we got in November anyways. I’m on the snowblower, the other guy is my girlfriend’s stepdad, Milton is a little under an inch shy of being 7 feet tall. 6’11” and change.
