Haas/Wraptor

A guy earlier posted an srt set line that he didn't notice to be hooked just over a hickory sprout and luckily got to the top. With that stepping Haas type ascent you almost have to get your ascent line away from the tree trunk. If not, It has to be difficult to fend off branches and brush, or not get pinned to the trunk while you attempt to do the Stairmaster replication ascent as you cannot push off with either your hands or feet and can get STUCK.

With a Wraptor you can kick out with your feet or push off with one hand while hitting the accelerator to bypass obstacles. You can even motor it while it is laying on wood. Tremendous torque there.

What do you all do when not in a video worthy ascent that you settled for but KNEW you would have issues with?

I am gonna buy a Haas just for the fun of it and it is a pita to always have the Wraptor with you esp on medium size stuff. Just would like to see a video in the real world of this Haas not in a perfect scenario.

I have a knee ascender but do not have heaps of experience with it due to small trees in the area. That being said it is not too hard at all to push off the trunk when only using a footy which I do most of the time.

The only thing easier than the HAAS and a foot ascender going up a single line is the Wraptor. You will also find it is less demanding, especially when you are first figuring things out, to go up next to the trunk not open
air. With the two ascenders down low, your hands are free for keeping your balance or moving around limbs.

For SRT ascent only not for work positioning. The Haas is meant for work throughout the tree not just limited to ascent your points in the beginning were solid but now this is silly. Also the system works great when you ascend against the trunk it's Similar to spiking up a tree. Buy a SRT set up vet (wrench/runner) and look at some video, then re comment when you try it.

I can't argue that the wraptor is easier, but an srt system like the haas or walker is not harder to do against the tree. I actually like it just fine.

That is actually why I began this thread, to find out why I/anyone would buy a Haas when they already had a Wraptor. Ability to reuse it in the tree is reason enough and also not having a big engine to put somewhere and guard against theft all the time secondary reason. Sometimes tho....I'd consider having sex with the thing I luv it so much. :-) Like said earlier...you really have to own one to understand.

Jake, I bought a BD Bone last week and am dying to use it SRT. Never liked all the gear involved with the Wrench set up so I sold mine to my employee for 20 bucks. I will prob still use my zzag on secondary tie ins.

My worries about ascent collisions and barricades have been splained by you'all.
