Grip that saw

I was limbing a Maple tree on the ground. I had picked it with the crane 1 piece. I was hurrying and didnt limb it as I set it down so there was a lot of pressure on a couple of limbs. The saw was a Husky 346XP. I dont think a Stihl would have had the power to cut thru all the scar tissue already on that arm.

No, I was at waist level with it. If you can imagine looking from the but of the tree toward the top I was on the right side of the trunk. So the saw was infront of me but at an angle to the right. Not a very good position(obviously).I was reaching out a little also.

Just read this for the first time.

Sorry to hear about the accident.
Heal up quick and right.

Good to talk about it here,
hope it prevents a few.

Thanks for sharing that.

Oregon State extension has a article called Felling & Bucking Techniques for Woodland Owners. Page 11 is relevant to this conversation a little. It is preferred to stand on the left side of the tree/spar when bucking & limbing. Click Here.

Mark, I don't know if this would have prevented your accident by standing in the left side of the spar or not. What do you think?

Also, I understand it is not always practical to stand on the left side, but it is preferred. Since I am aware of it I make the effort to limb & buck the way described in the article. Besides, it is highly efficient in the long run to minimize steps.

If I was on the other side of the treemy left arm would not have been in the path of the saw, So that is correct.

Ouch!

Goes to show you, even experienced and cautious users get bit. Could happen to anyone of us.

Thanks for having the balls to share.

Dang. A simple move to the left side. But, I understand our working conditions don't always permit that. Keep a good diet and your body will heal fast.

So, are you able to type with both hands? Or, are you using one finger and one letter at a time right now?

I have never been able to type with both hands.

I have actually been working and climbing all week.

That was a nasty looking cut Mark! Thanks for sharing it, things like this stick in peoples mids and might keep someone else from getting cut.

No tendon damage. Possibly some sensory nerve damage but Nothing major. It is getting better daily. Thanks for the feedback.

One of the people at the orthepedics today mentioned a chainsaw that stopped as soon as it hit flesh. I have to get one of those. He said he found it on the web somewhere. He seemed serious. Id definately like to see it!
