Grip that saw

Well simple as it sounds. Last saturday I was limbing a Maple. I started to undercut a limb that had more pressure than I realized on it and BANG a kick back. I was using the top of the bar and the pressure sent the saw "down", therefor the inertia break wouldnt work. It was enough force that it pulled it from my front hand. Saw spun and caught the underside of my forearm.
What could I have done?
-better grip on the saw
-Identified the pressure on the limb
-Not try and rush the job
-you add the rest

It always kicks the pride down a step to make a post like this but it should be a good reminder to others.

Chaps did not help me here but if it had hit my leg I would have been much happier. Wear your chaps!!!!

I posted a pic ....IT is graphic. If you dont like cuts etc... dont look.

I have felt that pain and I'm glad you are here to share this with us, and you heal well. Sobering pic of what sounds like a genuine accident

Did you have your thumb wrapped around the front handle?

yes I did. But, my grip must have been relaxed and not as tightas it should have.

It sounds like an unfortunate accident to me.

I'm quite concious of how tight I grip handles on the saw with regards to vibration, hence my question.

That's a crying shame, brother. I hope you heal up as fast as possible and everything gets back to normal soon!

Every click a different pic!

Sorry to hear of your accident. It's a scary reminder of how easily even simple things can go wrong.

Here's to a quick and complete recovery!

That's a nasty cut, I hope they were able to put it together alright.

So was it the bottom of the bar that cut you?

Yes it was the bottom. When it kicked back it pivoted on my throttle hand. It kicked because of the energy in the limb not the saw tooth catching.
