GreenTeeth help / suggestions

Hey guys,

I bought a used rayco super jr a while back. It's been sitting for a little bit as I am mainly doing tree work. However, I have some jobs coming up that require grinding. Right now is a stock set up with stock pockets & teeth. They need to be replaced so looked in to getting Green Teeth. I have three options to choose from:

1. A straight change out to green teeth with existing wheel, belts, sheave, etc.

2. performance upgrade with new sheave, belts, and 900 series teeth

3. performance upgrade with all of the above a different wheel

My business is about 75% tree work and 25% grinding so I don't grind all to much. Does anyone have any experience with any of the above set ups and is it worth getting the performance upgrades? Thanks so much!

Personally, if the wheel size and rotation speed is the same or nearly so, I would use the same wheel and just put on new teeth and pockets. On a grinder that size, I do not see a big performance increase from changing the wheel. The belts won’t make a difference if they’re in good shape; if they slip or look glazed or cracked, change them. I don’t see changing the sheave making a difference, unless it is a different diameter or is damaged.

The stock setup is 18 teeth, series 700, right? Same as Carlton SP2000. If you just want to replace those, I have a complete set of teeth, bolts and pockets (brand new, unused) if you want to save a bunch of money. Could let them go for very reasonable price, if interested (PM me).

My old SuperJr 1620 wouldn’t fit green teeth due to width. I run Vermeer Yellowjackets.

My other grinder was set up with 6 pairs of pockets rather than 9 pairs, more like a quadwheel, etc. Worked well. Ymmv.
