Any advice on using this product, things to do or not to do?

Looks like it has seen some use over the years - make sure it's smooth - no burs to cut rope.

Bought it yesterday, from a tree service. How hard can I crank on it?

Looks like a KK special to me. Should have a three foot long bar to crank with. It's not the most efficient design but you can pretension decently with it.

Ya looks like a bar for tightening the big straps on a flatbed semi

Not sure on the actual name but it looks like the Karl Kuemmerling version of the Hobbs devise.

Yup, used one just like that from KK years ago. Not bad. If you're doing removals and planning to do some heavy rigging with it, you'll need to cut a notch into the tree a little so she doesn't slide up the trunk. Beyond that, feel free to crank away as hard as you like - they're pretty beefy.

It is not a grcs but you can crank it slow with a trucker bar. It is not really a winch. It ratchets more like a hobbs.
