GRCS Worth it with mini.

As title says, I own a sk800 and we use it for everything. From dragging to feeding to lifting. With a block at the base and if needed a mid stem redirect I can lift anything I’m comfortable with as long as we have the runway. Theres a newer local tree biz going out of business that is offering a grcs for $2300 or $2500 with the hog. I’ve used grcs’s and know how slick they can be but also know the setup involved. Wondering for those that have both,how often do you bust out the grcs with your mini on site? Worried I won’t use it enough to warrant it but at same time I know there are definitely times and places it would be epic!

Side note, I do a fair amount of large conifer removals with one to two guys max on the ground. Thanks for any thoughts or insite.

I run a mini, with a 4k hydro winch, and GRCS. The GRCS is used but doesn’t come out to play.

Think long haul, it will come out to play. Perhaps infrequently but even if used once a year it will pay itself off. Double it up with a battery operated drill. Occasionally I will use both mini winch and GRCS.

Appreciate the thoughts so far and agree. I know there’s a time and a place, especially freeing up the mini to pull big picks out tip tied with the grcs. Wasn’t sure If price point was super epic or not. I know everything is 25-30 percent more expensive in the last few years. Work hasn’t been extremely busy this year as well so doesn’t make me overly amped to spend the coin. Haa

It’s a good price.
I wanted one, even ended up buying a Hobbs in the UK that my nephew purloined for his own biz before I could get it shipped over!

Won’t bother now as I’m too close to the end to get something I may never use.

$3600 plus $500 so $4100 + shipping or $2500? $2500 sounds like a steal to me. $2500 is one job. Just saying. If it were me I’d buy it. Hell you could buy it and flip it for a few hundred more.

From a couple yrs ago we removed this line of smallish pines with the combo (and stays for the rigging tree). This was the smallest stem but all were rigged the same. Without the grcs it would have been way more piecing out, and so much more raking too.

If I had that deal, I’d buy it assuming it’s in good shape.

We hardly do any rope rigging these days, but it would be handy to have on the shelf if it was needed.

I'd buy it.

One storm job and you'll be happy. You may need/ want both grcs and mini.

You can resell it easy.

Mine rides around, ready.

If your mini is down for repair, you have a good tool. If your mini gets stuck or tipped, you have a helping tool.

Seems that hanging the bracket to set it up is a help.

@Muggs changed the strap

@flushcut followed suit, IIRC.

Alright, got the push I needed to not talk myself out of it! Haa I appreciate all the insite. I know it won’t be a daily driver but at the price point probably be foolish not to add it to the quiver! I can think of so many times off the top of my head if I could have had something to lift with to free up the mini to tension lines or whatever it be would have been sick.

@southsoundtree. Hit the nail on the head with “ If mini is down.” Knock on wood not too often but when it is. F! Ha.

I’ll make it happen. Thanks all, and safe working.

I did. And I really like having a little less weight to the frame and have hung some pretty big wood off of the setup, three thousand easily with double whip and no movement on the trunk. Hanging the frame off of a small sling around the trunk is the ticket.

Some pics of GRCS hung wood 1800lb/ish.
