I don't own a GRCS….yet. I do however have a Ropetek Wraptor, and was happy to find a selection of large, lockable wheeled heavy duty totes at Northern Tool. My Wraptor lives in it now. I'm sure you'd find one there, that would house your GRCS, and let you wheel it from the truck to the tree to boot.
If you find one that works really well, share the make/model info here. That'll save everybody else from having to schlep into Northern Tool with their GRCS in a shopping cart!
I tried some regular plastic bins but they couldn't withstand the weight. Bonner turned me on to a Pelican 1650 when I was looking around. You can find one here:
Everything fits but the bar and it is extremely tough. The "pick and pluck" foam allows you to custom fit the foam around the grcs. I could only get it to fit one way but it doesn't move around and is well protected. I can get you a pick of it later if you want. They are guaranteed for life.
The shoulder strap sounds like a great idea, especially if you cold double duty with it as a choker for hanging it during solo installation. Imma make one of those!
The strap is a good idea. I like the pelican case too but I am not sure I want to drop that much money right now. Maybe it should just sit on the shelf in between rope bags.
there is a guy in town here who has a modified dolly where the strap portion of the GRCS is mounted near the top facing the tree and the bollard sits on the bottom. 1 person can wheel it up to the tree, run the strap around the tree with the GRCS still on the dolly, than as you tighten the strap, it comes off the dolly. Very slick set up you never have to lift the GRCS. you do need a truck big enough to store a GRCS and the dolly together. he has a equipment van you can wheel the whole set up in to. very cool. and cheeper than a pelican case
I have it built, and it will work on trees up to about 36" DBH which is fairly large for our area. A longer sling would be a cinch for larger trees.
It's a 16' long 7 1/16" dead eye sling with a 6mm floating prusik loop. The eye is about 1' to easily girth around the bollard, and the prusik has enough length to girth around the upper 'L' shaped fairlead bar. The idea is to carry the sling over your shoulder with one side connected to the bollard and the other connected to the frame. Adjusting the prusik would be a snap depending on the preference of the individual carrying it.
Once you're at the tree, the sling comes off the GRCS and girths itself around the trunk. The floating prusik connects back to the fairlead bar and the tail of the sling goes through the fairlead and turns 180. By lifting upwards on the sling tail, the frame lifts as you advance the prusik.
I guess the bees knees would be to make it useable as a final fairlead for the rig line as well...

Now wait a sec...you will spend 3k on a rigging device but not 275 to protect it?

Pretty ridiculous right? I am still looking at a few options. Most of our removals are usually in the spring, we mostly do pruning now. I'll post what I get and hopefully it will work out.
