GRCS for sale

Regarding Hobbs vs GRCS
One isn’t better than the other. They are different yet similar tools.
GRCS fits my needs better. One can lower some huge stuff, I’ve solo lowered 80’ 20-24” diameter Doug firs whole, I’ve put a scary amount of weight on them. They have more moving parts and need to be maintained. Perhaps this is where some of the failures have come from?
GRCS shouldn’t have the winch shock loaded, so obviously not the best for neg rigging huge wood. That’s what the bollard is for.
So Hobbs for negative rigging and a little pulling
GRCS for winching and some negative rigging on the winch. Huge chunks switch out to the bollard.

Now for this GRCS. Check to see if it’s the updated winch. Well worth the extra cost for the newer winch. Also check the hash marks, if worn smooth you’ll loose some winching gripping power. Still functional but needs more babying.

The price this is being sold at is the new price about 5 years ago.
This is about $600 off new price. Or only 17% off new.
I actually have the truck mount too. You might be able to retrofit with a wratchet strap that per muggs modification and get two for the price of one.

I just checked tree stuff..

the truck mount alone goes for over $1,000

the bit for using a drill is $115 ( I lost mine, but it's here somewhere )

and the tensioning bar is $73...

WOW

How much do you want for the truck mount since it wasn’t listed?
Paid $60 for my drill adapter
Only have to buy the tensioning bar if you break or loose the one it comes with. Not really something to itemize out as an add on feature.

I’ve got the GRCS, it’s invaluable. I want to get a HOBBS also, because: why not? They’ve both got their places. Just waiting on a 20% off coupon. Last Monday we used the GRCS for just about every piece of brush/limb on a big codom cottonwood. Made for a really nice smooth day for me, and all the guys on the ground. When it came to the chunk wood, we swapped out to the bollard, that fucker works great! Only complaint is the dainty parts on the plate in the potential impact zone…..

What do people prefer for pretensioning the line with the GRCS bollard?
Not a problem with the Hobbs..

The venerable Don Blair's thoughts on the topic-

"Completely self-contained, the "Hobbs" is tough enough to lift and strong enough to lower. Other brands require swapping out the winch component for a fixed bollard when "catching" pieces. Well, sometimes you have to raise, lower, raise and lower in order to put a piece where you want it."

David Driver had the bomber wheel made for the Hobb's. Anyone who knows David can
attest to his big wood rigging. What some people like myself call big wood is usually smaller, lol. Now I have used both, and I love the Hobb's because I am mostly dealing with stand alone trees. I don't need both and I would hate switching out from winch to bollard. I just think the Hobbs is bombproof. I have access to get a wheel so Hobbs is my choice. That wheel is a game changer.

I’ve seen the wheel! So that’s a custom built apparatus? Couldn’t be that complicated to fab something up.

David only made a few of those wheels and that was many years ago. I tried to get one from him 2 years ago when I was looking at a Hobbs. He said it's a pain to store and transport. Great idea though.

I have the goods and still want a Hobbs. Always have. To quote Chris Shultz, "Why not."
Mostly because I'm a gear junkie. Also because I think it would be good to have 2 good lifting/rigging devices. Even if it's to use both on one "pick.'' Example, lifting a tree off a remote house with no crane access.

I've done a bunch of solo work with my goods. Hanging trees that were leaning over structures. I can also see how either device could get a fellow in trouble, for doing things he wouldn't normally try.

I got the Stein 3001 with the winch before I got a Goods. They compliment each other well. Would still like to have a Hobbs. And a Smartwinch.

The dangers of bias. I would guess the differences in devices might match the differences in locations and situations of the debaters here… or maybe, the differences in situations of every tree worker here are so great we can never neutrally convey why we choose the tools we do.

I feel bad that dudes for sale post was hijacked, but I’m paying close attention to decode which may be better for my personal workflow lol

@96coal449 yes!!! Two devices used in tandem!! That’s why I want a second lifting/lowering device. I used my GRCS, to lift/lower a tree, and the 12k truck winch with wireless remote to float the butt end/log out of a tight spot the other day, worked great!!

He's been king of hijacking.
He's a big boy. All good.

Personally I’d get more use out of a smart winch, than a GRCS (I think!). But totally agree if I were to purchase a second it would be a Hobbs or SW as a companion and not as a substitute

For me and heavy lifting/rigging scenarios, If I couldn't get a Hobbs, I'd supplement with a 2nd goods.
