why were you snubbing the rope off? was it over something where "letting it run" wouldnt work? I agree with Jamin, take the crank off for everything but lifting. I do not think it is a very good lowering device. The bollard for everything except lifting, pulling, and tensioning. Its too expensive for dropping things on In my opinion. It is easy and secure to tie things off to the bollard as well.

I also found that the GRCS does not like bigger than 1/2 inch line. 9/16ths has blown out the springs a couple of times for me.

wow, really!

I'm feeling better about my hobbs then...

don't go there x . This problem was laziness on the cutter and lowering man . Next time , take the five(2) minutes and cut the two small limbs off and wrap the device right . Some ones gotta tell you , you messed up . That device cost some change , why try and break it with laziness. Damn right the grcs had a close call , if it smells like an egg it's an egg .

If I spent $2500 on a GRCS I wouldn't be bombing big wood onto the winch. Swap out for the spool or keep a porty on the side. Still a weird occurence, but I agree with Riggs, it is ultimately human error that caused this.

Glad no one was hurt!!!

I regularly use 5/8 and 3/4" bull ropes with no problems whatsoever.
