grapple hook?

Ebay, $3 plus shipping! Yep, it's self rewinding. I'm swapping out the throwline on it because right now it has the thicker zingit and I can only fit about 30' on there. I'm going to put the smaller size and might fit 50'. We'll see...

Thanks for the automatic reel tip

Thanks for sending me off for an automatic fishing reel. It'll really make it more fun to grapple with my grapnel

For years now I've been using a slip hook, for chain. It works really good for short traverse. Weighs in about a pound and can carry the tail of my climbline 25 to 30 ft over a limb on an adjacent tree. Hooks back into itself very easily. Snug up tight, slack main and make it over. I don't carry it in the pouch all the time. Really, the only time I use it is when I can foresee needing it in certain groupings of trees. I got a pic of it somewhere. I'll try to locate it.

Hey Jeff and others,
Was just browsing and came across this site.
Here is a photo of what i use. Don't use it often but sure is fun when i do. I recently pruned three huge big leaf maples without having to exit and reset my climbing line.
Cheers
Gareth

Judging by the size of that thing, I'm thinking it is for climbing...throw it over a limb then just footlock up the line!

If it was for snagging lines, it'd be way, way smaller.

Both techniques have been used. Jerry Beranak's chain hook idea is to throw the line over a branch and swing the hook/slack around to catch the rope and tighten it into lock down. That claw thing is desinged to hang off of directly, some minigrapnels have been made specifically for throwline retrieval.
