Gotta laugh at myself.

I started climbing SRS as a caver in 1970. I did a fair amount of it, including 150 ft rappel wearing cave diving gear to explore an underwater section at the bottom. I've been climbing trees for about 4 years now, essentially all SRS. The new hitch-based systems I got seem pretty slick. I have a rope wrench, HH2, and HHX that I play with. All great.

I was "encouraged" to actually learn MRS by folks who think that is the "correct" way to learn to climb trees. So I have started my journey to get good at MRS. I did a climb today using a closed system with a Blake's hitch. I couldn't keep myself from putting on a foot ascender, but never clipped it onto the rope. I did use a tending pulley tethered to my static side. Thrusting the Blake's hitch up with one hand just seemed dumb. Especially since I had the hardware sitting there.

I thought it was pretty easy to do, and see why people like to start that way. I also thought it was pretty funny that I started with higher end gear and now I'm going back to basics. I love this stuff!
