Got a question about the zigzag

My question is, why is it rusting? My ropes are always dry and I put it up and bam.. I go to my job this morning and it's done. Had to climb on a Blake's all day. Wth? I got this last year and has been great so far. It's not sap. I just want to know if anyone has had this problem? My beaners are aluminum.

That photo is quite out of focus so it’s hard to see what’s going on for sure. I am guessing either the ZigZag itself is being put away wet, or condensation is causing your problem. I’ve never seen a ZigZag rust though. Some penetrating oil may fix the problem though, and I believe those should be oiled periodically anyway.

Where and how do you store it? In a bag or out? On rope or off? In a truck cab, toolbox, or indoors?

Everyday when I get back to my shop, I always clean it and let it be.this time of season I let all my climbing gear hang out in my shop with the gas heat. Always been fine until last night.

Your problem may actually be caused by the heat, when you put cold metal in a warm atmosphere, it will create condensation nearly instantly. Leaving it out in the cold full time will prevent the condensation from forming.

Strange. I've got 4 and never seen a spec of rust, and I'm in the PNW. They don't always get put away perfectly dry either.

But yah, I'd like to see an actual in focus photo, this really doesn't show much.

I do this every day when I get back. What do you suggest me to treat in with? Maybe I need to get something else or go back to the Blake's? Not trying to be an ass , but what am I doing wrong? My guys know the routine. I check behind them always. I check all my gear before I climb. Wtf

I got caught while climbing by a pop-up shower, and the rope and ZZ stayed in the bucket for several days without rusting. I always thought the chain was made of stainless steel, but their description just says steel. It is magnetic, but there are some magnetic stainless steels.

I'm curious about this from your picture.

It looks like a sticker or something with letters. My ZZ doesn't have anything like that.

Are you in a salty environment?

I thought you guys were friends. Maybe not. Rico especially. Apparently I need to go somewhere else. Sorry I don't get in the political bs. You guys have fun and point out and bad mouth what climber's do. Sorry for asking about my petzl. Have fun. I'm out!

LOL, what? And I see 6 posts in a row from you, so you are obviously not banned. But maybe you are gone already, as claimed. So it goes.

Gosh, posting pictures is easier on this forum than any other place I've done it. I just COPY the photo from my files or from a website, and PASTE it right here in the reply block like this...

and boom, there it is. If I want to put several pictures side by side in a compact format, I put them in the compose block in Gmail, then use Snip & Sketch to do them all at once.
